It's actually kind of interesting how similar the COVID death proportions are to the overall death proportions (across age groups). In rough numbers, COVID increases your chances of death proportionately across ages (over 35 anyway). It's just that older people are more likely to die regardless.

If it weren't for a lack of a vaccine, it would be. I'm not saying it's not more contagious or more potent but we wouldn't have had a lockdown or all the hysteria about it. Older and other at risk people could get vaccinated and then we'd have death numbers at a flu like rate.
