That's part of it for sure. Also possible Mahomes is using the regular season like practice. During training camp of his 2018 season, there were a bunch of reports that he had a million turnovers in practice. We all saw how little this mattered when the real games began.

Aaron Rodgers has said he uses practice as a way to find out what he can get away with and what he can't get away with. Then Rodgers will play a lot more conservative in the actual games. Well maybe Mahomes is doing this to an even more extreme level. He's using the regular season games as practice to find out what you can get away with in a real game, and then he becomes way more conservative in the Playoffs when everything is on the line.

If that's what is going on, clearly it's working for him and he's gaining information from those regular season turnovers. It has led to 2 rings the last 2 years despite a lot of turnovers in the regular season. But I'm greedy. I would love to see him become a machine and bring that Playoff focus all the time, limit himself to like 5 turnovers per year. LOL

Yeah, but staying healthy is part of the gig. But yeah, if we can get 2021 Mike Williams on a 1-yr deal - sign me up.

Mike Williams is also completely different than any WR we've had here so I dunno if it's a stylistic fit.

I would probably do the same. But this isn’t a guy who has earned nothing. Something like $20 million so far. Not huge NFL money but also not fifth rounder money. So he might feel like he can have another good year, and add $30 million to his contract. There is very little chance he would get considerably less money after playing here (outside injury) but a decent chance for much more. Certainly within reason for him to think that and bet on himself if he wanted.

My whole point is that there is nothing at all from other WR signings or his play to indicate he would not have multi year options so if he signed a one year deal it is not some indication of a league wide view on him not deserving more years. It might just indicate he wants a chance at a much bigger payday from now or that he thinks he is worth more right now, closer to $20 per, which perhaps teams are reluctant to do. I have zero doubt if he wants Davis type deal it’s there somewhere.

He would only have around 4-5 turnovers per year in the regular season if he could find a way to bring that Playoff focus all the time.

It’s not usually about focus. It’s situational risk and reward.
