Veach so far has fixed a problem every offseason. At least to some degree, I have a feeling defense will be MUCH improved especially on the back end.

Yes ans he was very good there. They also got Matheiu who was very versatile. Sneed has played outside, inside, has blitzed a lot and has also covered TE’s.

Not saying McDuffie is going to play safety full time but I think you’ll see him play some of the role Mathieu did here.

I think you’ll see a lot of variations with this secondary. Reid is extremely versatile, Bryan Cook played corner at Howard before moving to safety at Cincinnati.

There’s a ton of opportunities to confuse offenses

The versatility with our top 3 DBs is key. McDuffie, Snead and Fenton could all move around....inside....outside. Spags is going to love this shit.

Somehow I just realized that his dad is OJ McDuffie, who was a decent NFL WR.

Just kidding. Sort of.

Look, it's May, and we just drafted these guys. Now is the time to dream about ceilings, not bitch about floors.

We took a bunch of highly motivated, hard working kids. Those are the type of kids that have a good shot at reaching their max potential.

If several of them do, this is a transformational draft.

It's May. It's the time for dreams.
{hangs head}

I don't actually think thats an unreasonable scouting report. I just don't think it's as damning or pessimistic as some do.

I think they're acknowledging that he's a good player. I think they're also giving a pretty good statement of his strengths and weaknesses. I think when they talk about 'first round player' they speak in the same terms Veach did when he said 'we have 16-18 first round guys...' in a draft that will necessarily see 32 of them. If you think there are 16-18 'first round players' then it stands to reason that you would see someone who's a 'good consolation at 20+' as being a 'fringe first, early 2nd' graded player.

And I think the lack of length is a legit concern.

Where I do think they should've emphasized a little more is how well this kid stops/starts and reads routes. It's remarkable. I've not seen many guys like it. His ability to gear down with the WR and change direction while staying in his pocket is just awesome.

But what that does is probably make him an exceptional slot corner while not doing a hell of a lot to overcome his real weakness outside - the length. And the length will always be a bit of an issue as to his ultimate ceiling.

As I've said - I don't have any problem with this pick at all. I think he's going to be a successful player here for some time. But I think saying "hey, he MIGHT not be a true island/shutdown guy" is more than fair, especially if you acknowledge, as the scouting report did, how steady and how smart a player he is.

Chiefs should let me trade my Peters jersey in for a McDuffie. Also, wow didn’t realize he was OJ’s kid either. We seem to have a few players who’s fathers were pro sports players. I wonder who has the most.

Kelce’s brother (if that counts)
I thought we signed someone this offseason who’s dad was at least on the Chiefs roster back in the day.

Edit, no it was Christian Watson and we didn’t draft him obviously.
