Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

"Better than Cassel" isn't saying much...

The issue most 9ers fans here don't seem to grasp is that just being better than Cassel doesn't do much. Most Chiefs fans don't believe Alex Smith is good enough to be a top 10-15 QB in the NFL, which is what is needed to win playoff games in today's NFL.

Well Bowe and Albert and Colquitt are still a part of the team. Now everything hinges on the 12th and the draft to see if the new FO isn't reeruned as heck. They still are for the Smith trade though.

Personally, after some initial puking I came to the realization that this is NOT Cassel all over again and Reid and Dorsey just don't like the guys at the top of this class. I figure Alex is going to be a stop gap because these guys feel like they can compete right away. They don't need to rebuild with the talent on this team. QB was the BIGGEST problem and they found the best immediate solution in their eyes.

Time will tell, but I see a plan coming together and I trust our leadership to do it differently than Scott ***** did. We're going to learn a lot more in the next couple of months.

Thanks for getting me approved. I have thick skin, and don't get rattled by complete strangers so I'll fit in just fine. You won't have to worry about me not playing by the rules. I even kept the same screen name. I'm not trolling. I did grow up in Seattle though, so I'm a Seahawks guy.

Herpes is Better than AIDS

but seriously, he will be better...

The team will win more games in 2013 with him, than with a 34th pick...

I'm just not as concerned with 2013 as i am with 2014-2024

Its fine though...I will roll with it

Duncan, nice name btw, but you know he's already won a playoff game and was one stupid play by another player from winning another

He won a playoff game with the best team in football around him (by putting up a very average performance against the toilet-paper esque defense of the 2011 Saints, who were also shredded by Josh fucking Freeman 2x).

He was one stupid play away from winning another in large part because of how poorly he played and how he was unable to make tough plays in tight spots to keep the chains moving (1-13 on 3rd down).

Unless the Chiefs assemble the best roster in football around Alex Smith, they are not winning playoff games with him.

Alex Smith is 3-16 as a starter when asked to throw 35+ times. Andy Reid's Eagles threw the ball 35.7 times per game over the past 4 years.

Saw that too. I don't think Reid views Smith as the long term answer. I don't see how. We must have something else up our sleeve.

Well that's the point of Super Bowl teams right? To assemble the best? I mean, what do you want man? He's a winner the last two years, top 10 QB at least. Point is, you can win with him and I think he has far more upside than people give him credit for. He's seen everything and will have a chip on his shoulder.
