*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

If the St. Louis Cardinals were to sign some future face of the franchise guy, I'd at least expect him to be an elite level T-ball player.

If Alex Smith were in my high school P.E. class and we were picking teams for Dodgeball, I would probably pick Alex Smith 2nd to last....just right above the obese person who stands against the wall and guards themselves until they get hit with a ball...then Alex would be picked behind everyone else for obvious reasons (see the clip).

I remember the types of guys/gals used to be picked 2nd to last, right before the obese person who hugged the wall....It floors me that THAT person is the QB of my favorite football team.

There's a gem in the Aaron Rodgers draft story on YouTube (but won't embed). It shows the two during draft week having a shot at throwing a football through a tire that is hanging in the air. Rodgers threw the ball through, no problem. Alex missed bad...and it was ugly. Wobbly thrown ball. Then it cuts to some guys being all like, "in retrospect, holy cow...how could people not see it was clear as day that Rodgers was the best QB?!"

I wish Clay would gif that.

Speaking of Aaron Rodgers...

Quote:
The MMQB: You documented how fortunate it was that Aaron Rodgers didn’t have to play the first couple of years—he just wasn’t ready.

McGinn: “He was a very poor player here for his first two summers and regular-season practices. Fortunately for him, and he knows that down deep, he didn’t have to play early. His delivery was a mess, bad body language, he didn’t know how to deal with teammates. He learned so much from Brett Favre on how to in some ways be one of the guys and relate, and he became much more of a leader. He was really poor and how many great players have ever had a start like that? Not that many. A lot of scouts look at that exhibition tape those first two years and he was a little bit better the third year, but not to any degree, and then he just really developed. He lost a lot of close games in ’08, but by ’09 he was playing great and by 2010 he was maybe the best in the business.

That quote from the MMQB article is exactly why I don't want Mahomes to play until the coaches think he is ready....

Now, I seriously hope and believe that the odds point to 2018. But, no matter what, it has to be when Reid feels it is the right time. Anything to ensure the pick maximizes its value long term.
