Hitchens played well in a 4-3. Speaks and KPass are built for a 4-3. Nnadi and Jones can play inside in a 4-3 and Houston should have no problem playing DE in a 4-3.

FFS....the transition won't be that hard. This team still needs DBs on the back end. That wasn't going to change from a 3-4 to a 4-3.

1. Tag and trade Ford.
2. Get Houston to restructure.
3. Go out and find two capable CBs to play along with Ward and Fuller.

Yes, in any given game, 'bend but don't break' can hold teams to field goals, keep the points down and win you a ballgame. But over the course of the season you're going to eventually run into that critical game where the red zone stops or 3rd down stops just don't come and you bend...then break.

Meanwhile if you're a team that excels at not giving up yards, statistically you're far more likely to be able to repeat that on a game to game basis.

That's why that 2016 season of his strikes me as a little bit of fools gold. His PPG was excellent but his YPG was merely above average. I believe the YPG was probably more demonstrative of the job he was doing and a lot of those cracks that were papered over in '16 surfaced in a big way in '17.
Yeah, the yards don't matter crowd has kind of spoiled me here.

Technically, they don't. But you just can't rely on being great in the red zone. Stop teams before they get there.

Maybe line Houston up next to Jones and watch out!!

I am liking this idea more and more.

Also 4-3 should make Speaks and Kpass guys who can actually contribute.

Kpass is the type of guy Spags will like because with his size he can play all over the line. Matter of fat Jones and Speaks could do that to and he's shown he likes moving the DL around.
I'm actually a little intrigued by getting Kpass and Jones inside some.

They're gonna have to be able to stop the run first.

So you're suggesting that they're going to keep Justin Houston at a cap hit of 21 million?

Dorian O'Daniel likely gets a shot to start as smaller faster LB's in the 4-3 is the norm now.

Bingo. We had the second to worst defense in the NFL for crying out loud. No one is saying we need to be the 2000 Ravens. Just become respectable.

We have to have the ability to win in more ways than just scoring 40 ppg.

KPass is similar to Justin Tuck IMO. Not production....but size and measurable wise. Tuck is just a little bit quicker.

Only if he takes a paycut, he might consider it. The idea of in the later stages of his career becoming an end that doesn't have to drop into coverage might be appealing to him.
