Great move by Veach. I still think KC needs to grab a CB early in the draft, if there's a good one available with either of their first 2 selections.

I mean I can't foresee Breeland continuing to sign 1-yr deals even if it's a shitty market for CB's, especially if he turns in another good season. Who's going to be under contract in 2021?

Maybe the Chiefs get lucky and see a legitimate exponential rise in Fenton's game in 2020, but IMO the Chiefs will be right back in this position again in 2021 if they don't address CB early in this draft.

Ward is a 2021 RFA, Fenton will be in the 3rd year of his deal.

We probably need to invest high draft picks in the CB position for the next couple years to keep the position group cheap. But we should always be looking for guys like Breeland to sign one year deals.

Do we, though? Ward was a UDFA. Talent can be found everywhere and Veach has proven it, specifically, at CB.

Hell, Breeland was something like a 4th rounder.

Do you really think a couple of successes late in the draft means that's the rule and not the exception?

I’m not convinced there are rules or exceptions here. There are good players throughout the draft. It might be a good exercise for you to go through our Super Bowl roster and see where each player was drafted. If they are all first rounders, you might have a rule. Otherwise, you’re going to have to argue that we, somehow, have a majority of “exceptions.”

It's a fallacy to assume the exact same formula from the super bowl roster will always work. No matter the position there's a reason players fall late in the draft. How many late round cornerbacks have we drafted that didn't work out? Tyreek Hill was a late round pick, should we assume it's okay to wait until late to get receiver talent? A few successes late in the draft and thinking that is how it will always work will lead to failure at some point. Corner is premium position and the majority of the best corners in the NFL were high picks.

Again, it’s not about formulas or rules; it’s about reality. We have 1 first rounder and one second. I would hope that the Chiefs don’t simply forfeit picks after that point.

The answer is: If you can get Hill in the 5th, that’s where you draft him. If you can get Ward as a UDFA, that’s where you get him.

On a related note, would you rather have Coleman, Fuller, Doctson, Treadwell, or Hill?

A CB in the first 2 rounds is almost a certainty and I wouldnt be surprised at all to see Veach draft 2 CBs.

So, the Chiefs have 5 draft picks this month and despite all of their needs, they're going to spend 2 of those 5 on one position, which already has its starters?

Sounds really smart, like something Carl Peterson would do if he were running the 2020 draft.

Veach seems to draft replacements for the player positions that will be thin in the following season.

I could see where they might want to spend 2 of those picks on CB. More likely a CB and a S IMO. Breeland is on a one year deal. Ward will be an RFA in 2021. CB is not a position that normally does well in the first year, serviceable yeah.
All their needs. You mean like a LB that could still be gotten in the 3rd in a player like Willie Gay or a few others or the IOL that could be had in the 4th or 5th round. The 5th can be used in several different depth places and we have the UDFA pool that we will likely sign a few from as well.

You just need a ton of those guys at CB and the Chiefs right now are thin not only now but looking forward to after next season as well. Who knows what will happen with Ward.

I could definitly see this team not spending any draft picks on several positions: QB, RB, WR, TE, OT, DL and S.

The only near certainties are CB, LB and IOL and I could definitly see a double down on the CB position.
