Chiefs start signing draft picks

Chiefs start signing their draft picks
Posted by Josh Alper on May 10, 2013, 1:34 PM EDT

Teams are starting to sign their draft picks all around the league and the Chiefs are no exception.

The Chiefs announced Friday that they have signed sixth-round offensive lineman Eric Kush and seventh-round linebacker Mike Catapano. They are the first two members of their eight-player draft class to sign contracts.

Both Kush and Catapano are products of schools not known for being pipelines of talent for the NFL. Kush played left tackle and center at California University in Pennsylvania, but projects to an interior spot in the NFL. The Chiefs have Rodney Hudson at center presently with Jon Asamoah, Geoff Schwartz and Jeff Allen making up the leading candidates for starting guard spots.

Catapano was the Ivy League’s defensive player of the year after recording 12 sacks as a defensive end at Princeton. He may kick outside to a linebacker spot in the Chiefs’ 3-4 front or he could be asked to get bigger to put himself into the mix at defensive end.

Meanwhile Knile Davis had a long run and was gasping for air after that. Put his hands on his knees three times on the way back to the huddle.

So with Albert returning monday I wonder if they have agreed on a long term deal.

Also im glad Reid called Albert personally. Sounds like Albert is excited.

Interesting. This is really, really comparable to Phil Loadholt's contract extention, worth about $3M less total. Loadholt got a 4 year, $25M extention with a cap hit that goes up from $4M by a million every year.

Basically, Fisher is one of the top-paid right tackles in the game. And I think everyone expects him to play like that.

We could still extend Albert and we wouldn't be overpaying the tackle position, just putting a premium on it. But it's not like we're paying top left tackle money to two different guys.

We could extend Albert, and then in three or four years, let him walk and move Fisher. Or just let Albert play out his franchise tag, move Fisher next year. But I'd like to see both Albert and Fisher stick around.
