New build house, with it, came a 1986 manufactured furnace.

We recently bought a new build home in CA and we had a home inspection completed and were advised our furnace while “new” was manufactured in 1986…… should I be concerned? Why would they not use a furnace from the 21st century at the very least? Is there a law in CA that prevents new build homes from using such outdated equipment?

Seems unlikely but the truth is, a new one built in 1986 would probably outlast anything made today. Probably not nearly as efficient though.

My old house had a system built in 1989 and it was still going strong when I sold the house in 2020.

On the flip side my new house built in 2005 I had to replace the basement unit that was less than 15 years old.
