Won't need to, as the Chiefs' revamped OL is going to be much better in short yardage situations. Lot more power with this unit.

Correct.

Mahomes’s first year as a starter with Kareem Hunt and a decent running game was special. Teams were daring Mahomes to beat them…and he did…repeatedly.

Even that team didn’t have a mauling OL like this appears to be. CEH probably isn’t Hunt, but should be much better than Damien Williams.

Teams being forced to respect a real rushing attack is huge. The Chiefs will punish light fronts, then torch heavy fronts.

So I brought this up before. O Brown played against Garrett last year at both right and left tackle with the Ravens. I looked at the NFL highlight youtube but I wonder if anyone had looked at the NFL 22 of those games?

We're much more laid back these days as a whole because the Chiefs are penciled in as a top seed in the playoffs, so these games don't really matter outside of working on things as a team week to week.

Far less validation-seeking.

so i guess the NFL thinks more highly of him than fans do.
That's funny....because if you look at his stats from 2020, he had a total of 11 QB pressures (which is combined sacks, hurries, and knockdowns - P.S. Clowney had no sacks) through 426 defensive snaps:

-3 of those came against a 1 win Jaguars team (who gave up 44 sacks - tied for 4th worst in league in 2020),
-2 more against a 4 win Texans team (which allowed 50 sacks in 2020, second worst in the league),
-1 against a 4 win Bengals team (which kicked the Titans ass BTW but also gave up 48 sacks in 2020 tied for 3rd worst),
-1 against a 5 win Denver team.....

so, that's 7 of 11 against teams with fewer than 5 wins.....

The remaining 4:
- 2 against Minnesota - who allowed 39 sacks on the year (bottom half of the league)
- 1 against Pittsburgh - who led the league, giving up only 14 sacks
- 1 against Indy - who was second in the league, giving up 21

Subsequently, the Chiefs, with all of their line issues, gave up 24 in 630 attempts, so about 3% of their pass plays resulted in sacks playing predominately backups across the board w/ exception to Fisher

Note: The Chiefs sack % was actually lower than Indy, who ran the ball way more. Pittsburgh was around 2%

I guess the overall point is this: Clowney really didn't do much of anything unless it was against garbage teams

EDIT: I forgot to stress ZERO SACKS.....only pressures. Hardly a game changer

EDIT EDIT: I also forgot to mention that he came up with a big fat 0 against Buffalo, who the Tits were beating mercilessly and who was passing the ball 41 times that game.....No Hurries, No Knockdowns, No sacks on 41 pass attempts

Here’s the thing about Clowney. PFF and those types of sites seem to always love him, but that practically never translates to actual quantifiable production on the field.

He always seems to have a high double team percentage, high win rate, etc.

Not counting his rookie season, he averages 5 sacks per year which has trended significantly down the last two years. He’s also only averaging 14 QB hits per year (also not counting his rookie season).

For his career, a game with 0 sacks and 1 QB hit is pretty typical for him.

What other player is gushed over so heavily by the analytics sites, but has so little actual production?

not completely sure but if he stays healthy i am guessing he approaches double digit sacks for the season.

just more of by product of being on the browns who should be playing from ahead alot with the most help on the D line that he has had since Houston.

Him and takk on one year deals should be motivated playing for that $$$

Why wasn’t Clowney motivated by his last 1-year deal?

Except we're not talking about the entire season, we're talking about Game 1 Browns v. Chiefs....

Sure, Clowney could have a lights out game, and sure, he could explode because he's paired with a Myles Garrett, but there is absolutely nothing in his recent history that suggests he's anywhere close to the hype that everyone thinks he is....

EDIT: Just to be clear....my issue with the Browns has nothing to do with Garrett or Clowney.....It's Mayfield, and while he's good enough to Alex Smith his way to a good to great record, he's not going to put the team on his back and will them to win. Mahomes can and has done that, and until Baker does, he's nothing more than Alex Smith to me.....
