Hillis: “It was a good call by Coach Daboll down there on the 11,” Hillis said. “It looked like zero coverage and my guy blitzed and the defensive end didn’t peel on me. I knew as soon as he blitzed that I was going to be wide open. Matt threw me the ball and it was an easy touchdown. Matt had a good read on it.” |

The safety was up and inside. There were going to be 2 one on one matchups on the left. It was a pretty easy presnap read. Once the LB blitzed, it was a no brainer.

Poe was nothing grand but he did do a good job of taking on double teams and pushing the pocket at times. In reality I don't understand where some were thinking he was going to look real good in his first preseason game? He may have the physical skills but he is just now learning the technique... that will come in time. For his first preseason game I saw nothing that was to alarming. As a NT group, I thought the three performed very well for the first game, let alone a preseason game.

“It’s been a really hard year for me,” Charles said. “I almost teared up after I got that first carry. It’s just been an emotional time. To come back to this stadium and to feel all the love and passion – I just feel that God gave me a second chance and I’m just so happy to step on the field again.”

I will say this, I think the nose tackle position is looking really good this year.
We went from atrocious in 2009 and 2010, to pretty good at the position in 2011, to looking damn good at the position in 2012. **** yes, man. Toribio looked really solid in his time. You can see what Crennel sees in him. Poe looked solid, not spectacular, as can be expected. Demanding double and triple teams already. Jerrell Powe, however. Wow. I think he looks like first string material. Really, all three defensive lines looked strong. Jackson - Toribio - Dorsey Pituitao (sp) - Poe - Gordon Bair - Powe - Long Applause for all three DLs. And applause to the Pioli regime for turning a historical weakness of this franchise into a pretty solid strength. |

Also, Cassel looked like the best QB yesterday. Stanzi looked solid to me, had zero help from his teammates.
Quinn looked lost. He's not working for me. But that would give us a solid, not spectacular, depth chart at QB of Cassel, Stanzi, Quinn. |

Here's the thing about you Goatboy, you are too dumb to realize just how much of a fool you are. Nothing has or will ever change about your worn out shtick except the subject matter.

Baldwin, Bowe, Breaston, Moeaki, and Boss never touched the football, yet the offense looked unstoppable. Awesome.

Baldwin's presense is already being felt, though. I believe the Cards had him bracketed all game. Freed up the other receivers and especially the run game. Our first-string OL looks ****ing dominant. The second string didn't look too bad. But Stephenson showed some flashes and some crap. |

We look deep pretty much everywhere except passrusher. Even Elam and Menzie did a decent (but not great) job at safety.

Really impressed with Steve Maneri.
Liked seeing Poe already demand a double. |

I'm not going to do "ten things" during the pre-season, because I sold my tickets for pre-season to my pal Mr. Doggity. But here's a few things from my reclined position with Meesh the cat in my lap and a cold beer in my hand:
Still need to see if Charles has "the burst." Hard to tell from his three carries if he still has game changing speed. Hillis will be great to have on third down. This is going to sound weird, but he reminds me of Marcus Allen. He falls forward, has good hands out of the backfield and can pick up a blitz. I'm not saying he's Marcus, but he is a well rounded back, and a load to bring down. Good pickup, beats having Jackie Battle or "The Illusive" Thomas Jones, that's for sure. McCluster was used perfectly. Not too many touches, and when they did get him the ball it was in space so he could get some RAC. Well Done. They still don't trust Cassel to throw long. His passes are still ten yards or less. Hopefully having a more potent running game will help open up the passing possibilities, as will getting Bowe and Moeaki back. Quinn needs to lower his throws. He's going to get somebody killed (aka Copper) on his high throws across the middle. I thought Poe did OK, although he didn't have a tackle. Thought for his first game he hustled, and is working hard. Nice to see Siler back on the field. I think he could give Belcher a run for his position. Belcher whiffed on the blitz again last night. He does that a lot. Gray looked very good for running with the second and third team. Stephenson looked like the second coming of Barry Richardson. Warpaint has his own big screen TV. How cool is that??? |
