Right, after the League has changed the rules to make him successful. The reality is that Manning doesn't play under the game conditions that Elway, Montana played under. And they didn't play under the same rules Bradshaw and Unitis played under and so on. I have come to the conclusion that you can't compare them anymore from a stats perspective.

Dude...where in the hell is Staubach on this list? He was absolutely amazing considering he lost 5 years of his NFL career while serving in the Navy. Plus he pretty much lost another two years due to Landry keeping Morton as the starter. If Staubach had come out like a typical college athlete, this whole conversation would be about whether Montana or Staubach was the greatest.

He was double as good as Bradshaw.
Now if he only had the wins to back it up ... |

My top 5 list, based on who I have seen:
1) Manning 2) Montana 3) Marino 4) Brady 5) Elway Manning takes the cake for me simply because he is the best individual quarterback. He's got a cannon, accurate, and one of the best readers of defense in the game. Montana had great intangibles and was extraordinarily accurate. Marino had a lightning release, great accuracy and suffered through one of the worst organizations in the nfl. Brady obviously, a system qb, but also great intangibles and accuracy. Elway... Well. **** him. Posted via Mobile Device |

Regardless of how good Manning has been, I just don't think you can discuss him as seriously top 5 until his carreer is over. If he goes down next year w/ a carreer ending injury, he'll just be a more-talented Danny White w/ a Superbowl win under his belt. We so easily forget how quickly people forget players when they leave the game early or fail to last. I could remember when people were talking about Terrel Davis as if he were going to recognized as the best ever running back. Everyone speaks in hyperbole about current players...but it all means nothing until they've been out of the game a few years so that everyone can take a breath and objectively evaluate. |

And by the way...unless someone has already said this, Manning isn't even the best COLTS QB ever....YET. That would be Johnny Unitas.
