Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Pressure him (crushed the league with big-time throws under pressure)?

If he gets out of the pocket, stay with your guy downfield (like they don’t try already).

Some are acting like he’s Kaerpernick. He isn’t.
When teams did get the best of him for a series, he went over and Andy was waiting to show him film of what they were doing. They reprogrammed him and he came out throwing the next set of downs.

They only way you slow Mahomes down is to keep him off the field like New England did the most of the first half of AFC Championship game. But Mahomes rebooted the entire team and kicked their asses the second half. We have not seen a defense beat Mahomes an entire game yet.

Nor will we ever. And if we can get even half of that happening on the defensive side of the ball, we're going to be the most unbeatable team in the entire league.

I agree! One thing the pundits fail to take in account is that Mahomes is so dang smart and Football smart as well. He has Alex Smith's IQ and you just can't fool him twice. Look at his first start. On the Road, against a division rival. Denver threw every exotic blitz at him. The O line was fooled more than Mahomes was. They just thought they were going to rattle his nerves and he would fold like most rookies- didn't happen. Mahomes even came BACK in the game and drove us for the game-winner.

Ravens tried that last year as well. They were sending the house- which usually broke a QB into giving up. They got Mahomes a few times and he went over and they rebooted to counter what they were doing. He was never shaken or acted defeated - then kills them on that deep pass to Reek.

When they talk about Mahomes taking a step back they are forgetting the mental aspect of the game. And seeing the tweet of him studying during a freaking tornado, it is highly unlikely that is going to happen.

Yes, he very well could be at this point. Mahomes had a year behind Alex to absorb all of his knowledge; the way he analyzed tape of defenses; how he prepared mentally; how he tried to figure out the best way to check down and dump the ball off for a two-yard pass.

The first day Mahomes stepped into Arrowhead, Andy took him to the chalkboard and threw the kitchen sink at him. Andy was impressed. It was more important for him to get a QB that could understand his system and to be able to adapt it on the fly- then just a guy that can throw 80 yards in shorts.

Now you see this on game-day. Andy is always right there, coaching him on what he did right or wrong, what they did to stop him and then fixing it for the next series. Pretty amazing stuff. This is what Montana, Manning, and Brady could do later in their careers. Mahomes is light years ahead of them so far.

Mahomes is better at recognizing disguised coverages and handling zone defenses

He’s also better at handling rushers because he never looks at them...his eyes stay locked downfield

Mahomes was freelancing a lot last last year and he did miss a lot of throws (he acknowledged this) due to being tricked by defenses at times, not setting his feet, going for the big play on 1st down when an easy first down was in front of him. Still amazing that he had 50 TD’s despite that.

It was interesting hearing the explanation of what Pat was doing this offseason. Pat was never able to take time and review himself in Andy’s system, so now he can review all of that and work on it.

I don’t care what defenses are doing to try to figure our QB out. Pat has seen about every exotic blitz, scheme you can throw out at. He figured out the best of the best twice last year in his first year as a starter. The guy can easily torch teams deep, so they better pray to God that Pat doesn’t improve in the short/intermediate level of the field when defenses have more defenders deep.

I think he will be better and defenses will struggle more this year to stop him.
