Peyton “looked real good” throwing to new Broncos teammates

Peyton “looked real good” throwing to new Broncos teammates
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 26, 2012, 3:53 PM EDT

As he settles in with the Broncos, Peyton Manning is learning the rules of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, including that he can work out with teammates, but only away from the team’s facilities and outside the watchful eyes of the coaches. And that’s exactly what Manning did today.

Lindsay H. Jones of the Denver Post reports that Manning took snaps from center J.D. Walton and threw passes to wide receiver Eric Decker and tight end Julius Thomas during a session at a Denver-area high school, and afterward Decker said he liked what he saw.

“He looked real good, though he probably won’t admit that he’s feeling good or feeling back to the way he wants to be,” Decker said.

Decker said Manning is trying to get comfortable with his new teammates now, and that the players who were on the roster last year are talking to him about the offensive concepts the Broncos employed — even though the offense will be quite a bit different with Manning running it in 2012.

“Just some drill work, talking through stuff, so he gets familiar with the verbage and the calls,” Decker said. “The biggest thing is he wanted to get a feel for us, and a feel for being under center.”

The Denver Post published 23 photos from today’s session. To the extent that you can tell anything from a still photo of a guy throwing a pass in sweats and a T-shirt, Manning looks pretty much like he has always looked.

--------------------------------------------

He looks pretty thin to me...not that I've looked at any comparison pictures.

Manning is also among the greatest of all time. And John Elway was in much worse shape at age 36 than Manning is, nobody got beat up more than Elway and Elway had some of his best years at the ages of 37 and 38.

QB's nowadays - especially pocket passers like Manning - can play at a high level into their 40's because of how the league protects the QB.

Elway had a MUCH MUCH better supporting cast at that time.

Despite the hate on the guy Favre could have been the toughest SOB to ever step foot on the football field. Do you really think Manning could handle at 30 what Favre did at 40?

Tap the brake a bit.... those Broncos' teams in Elway's final years were 10X better than what the Broncos have right now. The OL, RB, WR, TE and all around DEF were better. That's not to say this Broncos' team lacks talent, but keep it in perspective.

Yeah Elway had a top 5 OL, a top 2 TE, and a top 5 RB in NFL history. Nobody is arguing that. He was still beat all to hell and almost had to retire because of a bicep injury

Manning is a tough SOB. He played with that neck injury for 4 years and was making a run at Favre's consecutive games played record.

Exactly. He was good for an old brokedick, but "good for an old brokedick" =/= "great". He wasn't a difference maker.

VONDOOM will end Manning's career with an accidental dual power up pass rush in training camp.
