The labrum is mainly involved with shoulder stability, it helps keep the shoulder stable in its socket. Some people with a bad labrum feel like their shoulder is always going to pop out of place. You can get clicking and grinding in the joint too. It's not a muscle, so depending on the pain, etc he will probably have full range of motion and strength. Labrum injuries really limit you when arm speed is important, like serving a tennis ball, spiking a volleyball, throwing a ball, etc

Awkwardly landing on it or falling on his outstretched hand could be pretty painful. Or having to reach in an awkward direction to defend a ball could be weird as well
