He’s ultra competitive and is a bit of a roller coaster, emotionally…but that also is infectious with his players.

This is a great hire for the Chargers, much better than Payton for Denver.

Doug Pederson? The guy whose team started 8-3 and finished missing the playoffs?

I disagree there. Now Payton has to be careful - his aggressive approach, shit needs to start working or guys will start to hate him. He can't scapegoat year after year.

BUT he has proven himself to be a long term successful Super Bowl winning HC. Harbaugh has only proven capable of leading a great team for about three years before no one wanted to deal with his shit anymore.

I am very happy it's not Sean Payton in LAC and Harbaugh in DEN, I'll say that. I think those being flipped would be better for both franchises.

He's 60 and just won a national championship. The Chargers are paying him a rumored 13m per year plus whatever he gets in endorsements and just like...being close to all the agents and ESPN and Fox Sports in LA.

Even if he doesn't beat Mahomes, I feel like he'll get 5 years. Then he'll be 65 and very very wealthy. This feels like an endgame position.

He's already looking at houses in Malibu. I'm not sure winning it all is that important to him, to Dean Spanos, or to their fans.

It's a pretty shrewd move on his part.

I just don’t understand it. The chargers have a shit cap situation and a shit fan base in a division with the best qb in football where #1 seeds and afc championships have to be run through mahomes.

And the chargers get harbaugh and the falcons (a good team that just needs a qb) is going to hire Raheem ****ing morris? And the panthers hire a coach from the bloody nfc south?

Have you ever been in Atlanta in the summer?

Chargers are going to pay him a boatload, already have the QB, already have the stadium, the fans apply zero pressure and his wife gets to live on the beach in Malibu instead of freezing her ass off in Ann Arbor. It's not really hard to figure this out.

Sure there are cap issues also the Chargers already have a QB but have the 5th pick in the draft. Like, they are getting Marvin Harrison Jr or Malik Nabers. Hell they might take Brock Bowers.

It's a good position to be in even if they lose to Mahomes a lot.

didn't I hear today that he only got about $13 million/yr? I'd bet almost anything he'd have gotten a lot more somewhere else. I think his desire to live in/near CA was a bigger motivator.

Harbaugh was Denver's first choice last year. They were practically begging him to take the job

Plus when they ultimately fail, he'll get room to pick his own QB

Payton was almost the only reason I started watching Cowherd for awhile. His football IQ is off the charts, but his ability to explain football without being too technical/overly wordy was excellent.

Yea because that was on coaching, right?

Let's ignore the fact that he turned that team around from from the worst in the NFL to a playoff contender in his first season. This year would've been a huge improvement from where they were a couple years ago, as disappointing as it was.

I suppose Harbaugh never had a rough year too, huh?
