Well, it’s obviously a judgement call. Some of the calls are easy. Like Daniel Jones and Derek Carr. And also Alex Smith. None of those was ever going to be elite and that was clear from the beginning and continue to be clear as their careers developed. Purdy and Tua. Aren’t quite that easy. For Tua they may have waited too late and now have no other choice, but to commit to him and pay him. Even though I doubt he will ever get them to a Super Bowl. If they had not forfeited their draft choice last year, it would’ve been smart of them to have drafted Levis. I don’t know who they could’ve drafted this year instead of chopRobinson. QBs like Penix and Nix that you would’ve expected to have been available there went much earlier. For Purdy it’s a harder decision. And they have another year to decide. San Francisco easily could’ve won the Super Bowl last year. The bigger issue is they should not have even gone there as both Detroit and Green Bay should have beat them in the playoffs. Purdy has already shown that He is a winner, albeit with a very high-level cast. But Tua’ cast is also almost as high-level with the main difference being tight end, and maybe the terror that Hill brings to the field even compensates for that. When your QB was good enough to win you a Super Bowl and probably would’ve gotten you into the previous one if he hadn’t been injured I think you decide to stick with him. But maybe next year they probably should use a second round pick on a QB if anybody with high potential is available, like Levis was last year. Philadelphia is a good example of a team that had someone at QB who was generally seen as capable of winning a Super Bowl in Carson Wentz. But they went ahead and spent a second round draft pick on Hurts, and that was obviously a good decision. So, drawing the line is a judgement call. |

Iirc, Brett did play a few games in ATL. 4-5, maybe. And didn't play well. But then he went to GB, and in spite of his first couple games not being very good, he did have Holmgren. Anyway, my point was simply that GB has bucked the league-wide philosophy of drafting QBs and then ruining them by putting them on the field too early, and it's worked for them. In spades. The Penix thing is just weird. Especially when you consider the fact that a large part of the reason that Cousins wanted out of MIN was that their GM was planning to draft a QB, and Cousins didn't like that. Then he goes t ATL, and they do exactly what he didn't want to deal with in MIN? But Penix will get a first-class education on how to be a NFL QB sitting behind Cousins for however long he remains there. Currently, I would give Penix a better chance of being successful over the long run than Caleb. |

And so will putting all your eggs in the basket of a top 10 qb pick with no plan b. Yes, a safe qb who can put butts in seat but not win games can give job security but it doesn’t make it a better option. Just a safer one. More teams should have the balls to take chances at qb (not how Atlanta did it…)

Keep "throwing darts" at mid round qbs, because a few of them have become good players in the history of the league though |

If you take a QB in the top 10, but "need a plan B" don't take the guy in the top 10.

I think 9'ers will pay Purdy, MIA will try to draft a QB soon.

It’s getting to the point where unless one or both are still on their rookie deals, teams aren’t going to be able to afford to have both an elite QB and an elite WR on their roster.

The Vikings made a smart decision to move on from cousins. It also makes great sense to draft McCarthy knowing you have Jjeff and Addison. And it would be just as foolish to bank your entire next 3-5 years on him just because of where he was drafted. I get that gms are trying to save their jobs but it doesn’t make sense to me why any team would ever quit their qb search unless they felt confident they have a qb who gives at least some chance at a Super Bowl |
