Connor Embree - 1st Year WR Coach

Kid better button shit up.

Quote:
Connor Embree returns for his fifth season with the Chiefs and enters the 2023 season as the team's wide receivers coach after spending two seasons as an offensive quality control coach (2021-22) and two seasons as a defensive assistant (2019-20).

Embree again worked closely with the wide receiver corps in 2022 as an offensive quality control coach assisting an offense that led the league in receiving yards (5,250), touchdowns (41) passing first downs (272), receptions of 25+ yards (49) and points per game (29.2). Embree helped develop a new group of veteran receivers (JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kadarius Toney, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Justin Watson) who accounted for over 20 percent of the Chiefs receiving touchdowns. Smith-Schuster led the team's wide receiver group with 78 receptions for 933 yards and three trips to the endzone. Fifth-year receiver Valdes-Scantling had two regular season touchdowns and a career-high two postseason touchdowns. He stepped up big as the team battled through injuries in the AFC Championship Game, with 116 yards receiving off six receptions, three catches of 25+ yards and one touchdown en route to the team's Super Bowl LVII win.

In 2021, Embree worked primarily with the wide receivers group. WR Tyreek Hill recorded a career high 111 receptions for 1,239 yards en route to his sixth Pro Bowl nomination. WR Mecole Hardman ranked third on the team, recording career highs in catches (59) and yards (693).

In 2020, Embree primarily worked with the defensive backs who featured AP All-Pro S Tyrann Mathieu who led all safeties in the NFL with six interceptions and rookie CB L'Jarius Sneed who showed a lot of potential in the nine games he saw action (six starts). He snagged three interceptions, 2.0 sacks (-19.0 yards) and seven passes defensed.

In his first season with the Chiefs (2019), Embree primarily worked with a linebacking group that accounted for 5.5 sacks and 275 tackles in his role as a defensive assistant. LB Anthony Hitchens led the team in tackles with 88 and was responsible for 2.0 of the unit's 5.5 sacks.

Before jumping to the professional ranks, he spent two seasons on Coach David Beaty's staff at the University of Kansas as a graduate assistant where he gained experience working with the offense and special teams.

He also spent time in the high school ranks as the offensive coordinator at Blue Valley West High School and as the wide receivers coach at Fairview High School.

Embree played wide receiver for the Kansas Jayhawks (2011-13). He also spent one season at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (2010).

Education: University of Kansas (B.S. 2013). Born: Superior, Colorado. Family:Wife - Alex.

College Career as WR

High School: Was a quarterback as a senior in high school… Played free safety and recorded three interceptions as a junior… Earned second-team all-Eastern Kansas League honors… Was a three-year letterwinner… Also played basketball.

Personal: Born in Superior, Colo… Son of Natalyn and Jon Embree… Has one brother and one sister… Father served as the head coach at Colorado (2011-12), and has made assistant coaching stops at Colorado and UCLA in college football and the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins in the NFL… Brother, Taylor, played football at UCLA… Plans to major in communications… Would like to be a football coach… Main hobby is playing video games.

"They [Veach/Reid] believe they have been sloppy the last couple weeks with the WR's..."

This guy is making DRob look like an actual NFL caliber WR.

In addition to what he’s done with Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp.

Bring him to KC.

Mid receivers that have been in the league for years playing like trash: fire the WR coach, he must be teaching them to play bad!!!

Rookie WR continues to get better as the season goes on, emerges as an actual weapon: well must be divine intervention, I dunno. (shrug)

Is it possible Rice is getting better despite having a dipshit position coach?

Rice has openly stated he seeks out Kelce for guidance and insight. This may be in addition to and/or in spite of specific coaching issues… Nate Taylor mentioned it on his KCSN video he does with Briscoe and Keysor…

It could be, sure. But the advancement of a rookie seems like more of a reflection on direct coaching than vets like Toney and MVS who've been on other teams and have had other coaches and should already know the basic requirements of the position. Like catching.

While I’m in the same boat with you.. you can’t just write them all off as bad and rice as the outlier. Most of our issues are stupid fundamental shit in game. This guy may be great at getting guys in the playbook and just not fully be there when bullets fly and the ins and outs need tweaked.

FWIW though team mates and coaches have mentioned that Rice and Watson are there putting in the work day in and day out. Idr anyone coming to MVS defense or Toneys saying that they are lunch pail guys. It could all be an effort issue.

Fire this useless twat. Our WRs are never free. Seems like he puts as much attention to detail in his work as he does his appearance. All he needs is a beggars tin and a scruffy dog to complete the drug addled tramp look. Dickhead. **** off outta here.
