Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I heard John Clayton this morning, he was simply guessing, that was before Adam Schefter released his info. There is no swap of 2nd's going on. People need to stop buying stop from this BS merchant.

Notice as usual this guy never has a link for any of his claims.

He wouldn't do it.
Several 49er fans are protecting Smith because of the way he was benched for Colin. They felt bad for him, they showed his sad ****ing cry baby face all over the television. People say he's a good QB based on their emotions towards him. They like him he's humble and he's a leader. That's cool, so was Cassel too. Doesn't take away the fact that they both sucked.

EFF THE RAIDERS. They jumped in last minute and raised the asking price for alex smith. Originally we offered a 3rd rounder but raiders upped the ante and we gave 2 2nd rounders....It's all on pro football central. I've never hated the raiders more than now

This move may or may not be the best option for 2013 but it was most certainly a risky move.
I am going to disagree with this, this was a very safe move. It takes the ball out of Fat Andy's court, now he doesn't have to make a career altering decision on a young QB in this draft.

I don't think Cassel was ever a leader.

Okay, I leave for a couple of weeks and this whole place falls apart. Come on, people. Get on your feet. Walk it off. Rub a little dirt on it.

Given what we've heard about Alex Smith, he has an understanding of the game and a passion for the game. He just doesn't have the ability. He's an upgraded version of Todd Collins.

So why is everyone assuming that he's the long term starter? I'm willing to wager that there are one or all of three factors behind this. First, we need a veteran to help teach Geno and mentor him. It sounds like Smith is the type of guy who could do that. Second, Geno just may not be ready to start. Maybe Andy needs a guy for a year or two who can steer the boat while Geno is donning his superhero suit. And third, quarterback is the most important position on the field. If we can get an adequate backup for the long term, let's do it.

I still think we're drafting Geno.

My only annoyance with this trade is the cost that's being reported, if indeed it's true. I wouldn't mind the earlier rumor that it was a swap of seconds, but if we gave up a second and possibly more, then we overpaid. Backup quarterbacks shouldn't cost that much, especially when both Smith and Hasselbeck were probably going to be pounding the pavement looking for work anyway.
