So he's been involved with the Royals for all or part of 15 seasons and has won 2 pennants and 1 World Series championship. That's very good performance. The Royals were one of four 1969 expansion teams. Dayton won the Royals 2nd title before any of the other 3 teams (Padres, Pilots/Brewers, Expos/Nationals) had won their first. It's not easy winning pennants, let alone titles. There are other teams competing, too. In baseball, some of those teams have way, way, way the hell more money to spend than others. |

If teams can’t field competitive teams on a regular basis, it’s time for new leadership or just outright contraction. |

Yea. Why does it have to be all or nothing with this franchise? Why can’t we be competitive nearly every year?

Last 10 years, Royals have more World Series championships than the Yankees and Dodgers. Same number of World Series appearances as Red Sox, Astros, and Cardinals. And the same number of World Series championships as the two teams that were suppose to be dynasties in Astros and Cubs.

Team...Pennants (WS Titles) Red Sox...3 (3) Astros......2 (1) Royals......2 (1) Rangers...2 (0) Tigers.....2 (0) Yankees...1 (1) Indians...1 (0) Rays.......1 (0) We're tied with the Astros for second place in number of pennants, using World Series titles as a tiebreaker. I'm fine with Dayton Moore. That 2015 Royals team put together the most enjoyable sports season I've ever watched, and I've been rooting for the Royals and Chiefs all my life (born in 1965). |

Be playoff eligible three times a decade and win a playoff series now and then. 29 year playoff droughts shouldn’t be standard. |

Dayton's not above criticism, no one is. But there's a couple realities as to why we're where we are.
1.) Dayton did not draft well in the mid-2010s and we're paying for it. 2.) He was in a brutal spot with the World Series group. Ticket sales and fan interest was through the roof. If he dismantles that World Series group early to get decent trade value out of them, he gets completely destroyed. "How could you break up a World Series champion?" So he rode it out to the end for two more years. There is not a person here who would have supported dismantling that team in 2016, and if you say so you're lying. Him and Glass would have been run out of town. So you have to start from scratch. Otherwise you're waiting for the draft picks you get in 2018 to get up here, which we're just starting to see. Especially since they didn't draft well. Last edited by tk13; 09-05-2020 at 10:33 PM.. |

One additional point, the Royals handled the 2015 season superbly when they picked up Cueto and Zobrist at midseason. In recent seasons, at least one other team, the Pirates, saw their windows open and close without the team taking decisive steps. I will always be grateful for that 2015 team and how they rose to the great expectations that had been placed on them. |

And the next argument is "How do you know he couldn't have traded them in 2017 for something?"
Because no one gives you squat for rentals anymore. And we don't need to guess with this because Dayton literally traded Moose a year later and made one of the better trades at that deadline, and even then both guys he was traded for are no longer on the team. We're probably better off with the comp picks and guys like Kowar and Lynch at that point. |
