Without question the worst player on defense?!! Do you mean starters? Just this year? Cause give me Sorenson over Gaines last year, Zombo now. Sure there are a few others as well.

I also don’t think that’s the main reason why teams like the Pats, Steelers, Panthers, Falcons, and Saints for example haven’t won over the last few years. You can clearly be a SB caliber team after you pay your QB, though I agree the easiest way to do it is with a young talented QB on a rookie deal. I just think some of you take it too far. If Pat is as good as we think he’ll beour window, big picture wise, is well beyond the next 3 years.
Once the qb gets paid, it becomes more difficult. Unless he’ll take less like Brady, that is.

If you’ve got a guy like that, you’ll have a chance but as we’ve seen with every team, it puts stress on everything else.

Easily could be said the teams that have won with a qb on a big deal is the outlier

Watts is a FS. No way in hell do we want him in a role where he is depended on to make UPenn field tackles.

O’Daniel is gonna get a chance to play right away in sub sets.

I wouldn’t be opposed to them going out to get TJ Ward on a one year deal...

I’d argue that it’s not even mostly the $ and that it’s a few factors

1) having a good QB means you draft towards the end of each round
2) having a good QB means you rely on your front office to draft well around you

There are more, but those are the major parts.

Rothlisberger, Rodgers, Brees those teams aren’t held back by the teams QB contracts.

Look at the drafts of GB or the stupid deals NO has given out.

It makes the drafts that much more important.

It just magnifies everything

With any luck, and skill, by the time the young hot hotshot QB is ready for a new mega deal... your drafting is dialed in, and you have the kind of market hype that makes it easier to get top free agents for less

Use that top QB, and reliably consistent drafting to stay on top... it shouldnt be impossible to do

Teams like Green Bay dropped the ball, I have a strange faith that Veach wont

The difference between an average QB and an elite one is about 10m per year.

In no way does that 10m prevent a team from fielding a talented roster.

Without Rodgers, look at GB last year.

Pittsburgh is a 6 win tw without Ben.

GBs drafts have been horrid..Pittsburgh’s havent been much better (Ben makes their OL and WRs much better)

NO is the dumbest FA team out there.

You know what makes good franchises?

Getting Tyreek in the 5th
Getting Kelce in the third
Getting LDT in the 6th
Getting Hunt in the third

Having a coaching staff able to identify talent and coach them into roles they can thrive in.

Those things keep the train on the tracks even when you have Smith, Houston and Berry on huge deals.

Why the hate on dirty Dan. He was our leading tackler last year. Plus had to handle more stuff when Eric Berry got hurt.

So was Mike Maslowski in the day. I like Sorensen but being the leading tackler is no reason to over value a player.

Should we fire up an “Eric Reid visiting Chiefs on Monday” thread to replace the Breeland one?
