Drafting Offensive Line

I was told it wasn't necessary. Draft them in the 6th and 7th round and pick up the rest off the bargain bin in free agency. O-Line doesn't matter when you have Mahomes.

Now do you guys understand?

Pat can't do this alone.

These things can be so fragile. Just like how the Royals lost Yordano, ended up having to sign Jason Hammel and we know how that worked out. Maybe that cost them a playoff run in 2017 and that was the end of that. The Chiefs should be in a better position and Mahomes has the ability to overcome a lot but you have to put a decent team around him to win the whole thing. Plus if Andy did decide to stop coaching the Chiefs job would probably be the hottest job since the Colts fired Jim Mora about 20 years ago. But the Reid/Mahomes team is pretty special so I can't see Andy walking away from that... but there's no way he wasn't rattled this week.

True but Brett Favre and Russell Wilson were nowhere near as good as Mahomes is/has been for the past three years. I'm exceedingly confident he'll be back in this position again.

Who knows. They have major flaws in the roster even with Mahomes on a $5M cap hit. What happens when his cap hit goes above $30M? They blew it in 2018 with a terrible defense. This year’s defense was pretty solid, but nowhere near strong enough to offset the offensive line problems.

This year’s defense was below the league average still. They were still only as good as they were overall largely because Mahomes is otherworldly (even with a poor Oline all year). There’s not much reason to think that’s going to stop any time soon.

Just saying I think with the OL problems, they needed a 1985 Bears or 2000 Ravens type of defense. In that scenario, Mahomes would still be able to make enough plays behind a terrible OL to win the game in ugly fashion. Obviously the defense is nowhere close to a 1985 Bears or 2000 Ravens situation.

The OL situation seems more troubling overall. Fisher/Schwartz have been very solid guys, but now suddenly they might be out of the picture. That's a very quick destruction of high quality performance at 2 very important positions on the field. Could be looking at a total rebuilding job across the entire OL. I don't see them fixing that type of thing overnight.

Best case scenario is that both Fisher & Schwartz are able to bounce back in a very strong manner and still be a huge part of this team over the next few years. But is this a realistic scenario? I'm afraid it might not be.

They have to do something at tackle. Andy Reid relies on tackles way too much to have this go any further. Andy himself has said to give him 2 tackles.

Idk if that’s Niang and pray Fisher comes back at some point next season or what but they have to do something.

I bet what ends up being closer to the truth is Niang discussed it with Veach/Reid and him opting out was a mutual agreement type decision.
Yup. Also keep in mind he ideally needed to rest his knees a year. Think the chiefs and niang saw a win win in him sitting out. Defer his contract so the clock starts one year later, rest his knees, still give him some opportunity to learn.

I think Niang/Remmers is good enough for RT and swing tackle.

We need to sign a cheap veteran center and we need to draft a left tackle that can start.

That's a tall order.

Now the dust has settled, im a lot more accepting of the fact that we really trotted out dogshit at o-line. Losing fish and Mitch to injury, the literal strength of the line, killed us. Theres no roster in the NFL built to win without their two best tackles and a relatively high draft pick opting out.

And the Chiefs are great at complimentary football...when the offense performs. When it doesn't the defense looks below average.

When the defense knows Mahomes can score at will they play better.

The left tackle was the final domino that toppled our OL which toppled our offense and then exposed our defense.

Fix the OL and we are top dogs again.

Patrick has had a knee misplaced, a toe that needs surgery and a concussion scare. He’s only 25 and already has all of that.

Perhaps it IS best to load up on OL no that doesn’t mean drafting them in every round.
