I wonder if this is a front for someone else. Remember the Cooper Kupp rumors and us not even wanting him?

Think it might be a situation like that

Lattimore has been more hype than substance for a bit now.

He does fit the system well, IMO. And he's a pretty known quantity.

But those expecting him to come in and be at/near the same level Sneed was last season or even Watson was this season are gonna be a disappointed. He's probably a fringe top 25 CB at this point in his career.

Good player but not a great one. I don't think I'm giving a 3rd for half a season of that.

Let's say we beat the Bucs tonight and TB sells. I'd rather have someone like Jamel Dean who's contract might actually fit into our salary structure next season, who is roughly the same level of player as Lattimore and who would probably cost less to acquire.

DJ Reed is probably better than Lattimore but is probably a bit undersized for what Spags would need from him.

Who knows what the **** they’re doing. The best move would have been to give him one more year and use next year to tear the whole damn thing apart. It’s going to be a long rebuild and I can’t imagine a good coach would want to inherit a job that will be impossible to succeed the first few years

Unless of course they’re planning a temp hire who can bandaid at least into next year. The main question is why the saints didn’t do this years ago. They actually thought Dennis Allen and Derek Carr were worth years of desperate attempts to keep the window open

This is my best guess right now. I think they’d rather elect for a younger less expensive player.

Someone they can have under contract for relatively cheap in 2025 too maybe.

Saints are in full meltdown mode.

Do you think Willie Gay regrets his decision?
