Being in purgatory with an average QB is the worst. It's tough to take a step back after you've won a playoff game and you aren't in a great position to draft a top prospect. Plus, the available FA QB's are extremely limited and with their own problems.

Is someone really saying black QB's don't get paid?

Might want to tell that to Watson who broke the system all while having 20+ criminal allegations being made against him, Russell Wilson who fleeced the Broncos, Kyler Murray who fleeced the Cards and Mahomes who at the time signed the highest contract.

The weakest minds are always the first to scream racism despite evidence to the contrary punching them in the throat. It's easier than objectively looking at Lamar and realizing that he is in rapid decline like the vast majority of running qb's before him. The ravens know this which is why they're willing to shop him around. Problem for them is, the rest of the league knows it too.
Lamar went all in on himself and it appears he's about to lose his shirt.

I disagree but to me Jones as a low level starter and Brisset as a top end backup are quite similar.

So this contract is stupid.

If you don't have a guy that can win a Super Bowl don't pay big $$$.

How do you even let it GET to this point?

You tag and trade him for whatever you can get and go hire a game manager on the cheap. Same difference, way less money, and you draft a guy with potential to be worth paying.
Welcome to the NFL in 2023. This isn't going to stop anytime soon. There's no way the Giants are going to let their QB go after making the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.

You're talking about what teams SHOULD do, not what actually happens in the NFL.

Daniel Jones isn't stupid at all he played his hand to get paid way better than the player he is.
Exactly.

Yep.

I wonder if the league will consider having the qb contracts not count towards the cap at some point. These contracts are absurd and are already making it very difficult for teams to field competitive teams around them.

Agree that Jones contract is bad for the Giants but it's basically only a 2 year deal if the Giants want it to be
My point is, if a black QB had the EXACT SAME STATS as Daniel Jones, the Giants, and every team in the league, except maybe Cleveland, tells Daniel Jones to kick rocks.

He threw 15 TD passes last year. Russell Wilson threw 16 and people are saying he had one of the worst QB seasons ever.

If Jacoby Brissett put up the exact same stats and won the same games, and lost the same games, for the Giants, they would offer him $20 million a year. But, Daniel Jones is white, and is getting $40 million a year.

If any black QB not named Mahomes or Hurts had those same stats, they would not even come close to that contract.

Just like people like Gase getting hired twice, and fired twice, or white college coaches with no NFL experience getting hired before Eric Bienemy gets hired once, sometimes it really is just about race.

You don’t pay Jones $40 mil a year. Elite QBs aren’t available very often but you lessen your chance of finding one when you pay an average one at best that kind of money. Now they are tied to him for longer. Hope his play justifies his salary.

Well they did get blown out by the eventual NFC Champions.

Also, their best WR come the playoffs was a Bills practice squadder. Those cupboards at WR/TE were bare.

Agreed. It's not ideal because he's not an elite QB, but this is the going rate for a young QB with potential. The way it's structured will be far more important than the overall numbers.

One he will be 26 years old next season and for most of the year his wr were a bunch of cast offs. Doubt any of them could make the chiefs roster and I really do not think we had a top 10 roster at wr. He also had only 5 picks. Your signing him for his prime years and can expect him to continue to develop especially given his coaching the first couple years in the league. Focusing only on TD's is meaningless.

Do I think his salary is high yes but given the QB options they pretty well need to find out what they have in Jones. My understanding is basically only the first two years are guaranteed of a 4 year deal. So if he pans out worse then Brissett they can walk. He is paid less then Kyler Murray which at this point not sure who I would want moving forward.

Making this about race is stupid.
