Fox's 24: Live Another Day is reassembling Kiefer Sutherland's rogue agent, his trusty sidekick Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub), his onetime love Audrey Heller (Kim Raver) and her dad (William Devane), who's now president. The ninth season of the show is set four years after the eighth, with Jack still in exile, and this time, he and Chloe are "pitted against each other," Sutherland says. Jack remains on the run, "not quite Osama bin Laden but a fugitive of high order," says producer Manny Coto. "When he resurfaces, we will learn he has a mission, whether it's good or bad we don't know, but they're hunting him." He reconnects with Chloe, who has "turned against the government; (she's) more a radical Snowden-type character," he says. With another hot-button issue — drone strikes — factored in, events will "launch the series into what will be a large tableaux set in London for some crazy events." Executive producer Howard Gordon says the setting in London, where the show will begin filming later this month, was critical in highlighting the exiled state of its hero. "We found a place emotionally to locate Jack, physically to locate jack, and Chloe — who is not his trusty sidekick — someone who is damaged, has joined the free-information movement." Rajskub says she "never thought 24 would come back and I never thought it would come back in this format. I just gotten away from (people) yelling out 'Chloe!' and I'm ready for it to start back up again." Writing 24-episode seasons was "a marathon, it was really, really punishing," Gordon says. The new 12-episode plan is liberating. But the format remains the same: Though the season will still take place in real time over the course of a single day, but fewer episodes will allow writers to sometimes jump forward a couple of hours between them. Producers say, only half-jokingly, that they sometimes need Wikipedia to remember what they've written. When they thought of reviving Devane's character and making him president, "we all thought he was dead," Coto says. (That would be Gregory Itzin's President Logan.) Whither the long-discussed 24 movie? Though a script has been written, it never received a greenlight. "If this ends up rebooting the show or causing a film to be made, so be it," Sutherland says. But "right now we're focused on these episodes." Yvonne Strahovski (from Dexter) is the CIA agent tracking down Jack Last edited by BigRedChief; 02-03-2014 at 07:25 PM.. |

Obviously, they wisely have left the door open if they want to do something more with the character. Would've been stupid to kill him off outright, unless Sutherland said he simply didn't want to play him anymore, and to prevent being talked into it in the future he wanted Jack dead.
I guess they could've always rebooted 24 with another Jack-like character, but I doubt most fans would accept that. It's Jack or nothing! |

I just don't see that character ending by rotting away in a Russian prison. Someone, somewhere will pick up the 24 story and finish it with a conclusion, one day. |

He can get out of just about any jam but can't escape from the helicopter (without handcuffs)? If he's ready to die, why not take out the entire crew or escape trying?

I guess I was a little disappointed with the finale but I'm always cheering for Jack. Perhaps I was just a little sad to see it end again. I'll cross my fingers for another season but won't hold my breath.

I saw an online comment that said, "The silent countdown at the end wasn't for Jack. It was for all the guys in the helicopter with Jack."

It's not a stretch to think that when Cloe gets away safely he will make his move. He knows how to fly a helicopter.

The finales since after day 2 have never quite measured up for me. Man, that was a great finale. Also, I never liked Audrey so her death was meh to me.

If somebody comes up with some good plot ideas, they'll have another season. If they don't, that means they are making a wise decision to let it end. The last thing anyone wants is for the show to come back and jump the shark. As of now, they can correctly say that it lasted 9 seasons and never jumped the shark.

‘24′ Pilot Officially a Go at Fox, Action-Thriller To Be Revived Without Jack Bauer
After much talk, Fox is seriously considering bringing back “24” with a formal pilot order for a reboot of the series, titled “24: Legacy,” Variety has learned. The pilot will film this winter. Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer character would not be part of the revival series, which will feature an all-new cast of characters, but will retain “24’s” format of real-time storytelling with split screens and like the original, each episode will represent one hour of an eventful day. “24: Legacy” will revolve around a military hero’s return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back — compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil. Original “24” producers Howard Gordon, Manny Coto, Evan Katz and Imagine’s Brian Grazer will return as exec producers. The rest here: http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/24le...er-1201680684/ |

Anyone watching the new 24?
Looked like the original one. Kind of cliche but better than most shot on broadcast TV these days. |

compared to the last couple seasons with keifer, it was a bit refreshing. 24 was one of my first netflix dvd orders back in 2005. i would binge watch it while chatting with my future wife in a chat room, married 8 years now
