BUT IT'S SO EASY!

I mean, who wouldn't want to give up their 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks, plus take on an extra $20M in guaranteed money?

Why wouldn't Philadelphia want to give us both their 1sts, their 2nd, and a first next year?

This is a great point. As great as it sounds, the problem seems to be coming up with a partner. When was the last time someone traded into the top 5? As a Dolphin fan, many were talking about trading the #3 away for a multitude of picks a couple of years ago when we got Ronnie Brown. Never found a deal. Last year, people were talking about getting the Cowboy's 2 first rounders because we were terrible and had a ton of holes to fill. Never found a partner. I think the chances of finding a partner that is willing to pay close to reasonable compensation knowing that they are going to take on a huge gauranteed contract are practically zero.

Thinking logically is not a strong suit of some NFL fans, your post makes to much sense for them to comprehend.

I've pushed for a trade down but my argument has always been that the reason trades don't happen, is because a reeruned draft chart makes it impossible to trade out of the spot. I've yet to hear a compelling argument as to why top 5 trades demand so much compensation. The only argument is "because the chart says so."

If trades are constantly getting nixed from teams that are pushing for a trade-down, then that means the draft chart is off. End of story.

I think another reason that trades at the top of the draft seldom happen anymore is the outrageously high gauranteed contract that teams will have to take on for a player that has never played a down in the NFL. I think if there were some type of rookie cap or slotting that the NBA employs, that high pick would be worth a lot more. But a long as the contract puts an NFL n00b amongst the highest paid players in the league, it loses value.

If a taker is available, a well prepared team would do well to at least seriously consider it in ALMOST every case.
