Tom Brady's transition to broadcasting may not wind up being as smooth as he'd hoped.

On Wednesday, ESPN's Seth Wickersham reported the NFL was prepared to place harsh restrictions on Brady's broadcast access if he is approved as partial owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. He is set to take over as the color analyst in Fox's No. 1 NFL booth alongside Kevin Burkhardt.

The league confirmed to Wickersham that if Brady is an owner, he would not be allowed to enter another team's facility, watch practice, or attend broadcast meetings in-person or virtually. That would severely hamper his ability to deliver insightful information during games because he wouldn't be allowed to meet with coaches and players of the teams involved before games.

The rules were presented to owners on Tuesday and would seem to only apply to Brady, not the entire Fox broadcast crew. Brady's attempt to take a 10% ownership stake would need to be approved by a minimum of 24 of the league's 32 owners.

Among other restrictions as an owner, Brady would be subject to the league's gambling and anti-tampering policies, and would not be allowed to publicly criticize officials or other teams.

In 2017, then-Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen was added to several Fox broadcasts and faced some similar restrictions.

In 2022, Fox gave Brady a 10-year, $375 million contract to become its No. 1 analyst, and the network can't be thrilled about this development.

This was a master grift job by Tom Brady

step 1, sign a huge TV deal with Fox

step 2, get your ownership stake approved for the Raiders

step 3, you can no longer do the off camera work for the TV job because step 2 prohibits such activities

step 4, profit without doing much work besides showing up on gameday and babbling for a bit

I still don’t get why the Raiders tho. He always said he’d like to be a Niner when he was growing up. I would rather own part of that team than the Raiders. A team that has almost no fans in Vegas. It’s essentially a tourist spot for Opposing fans

It's a really dumb contract at $37.5 million per year, even if Brady was allowed to do the pre-game work. None of the announcers should be paid more than $5 million per year. The audience is tuning in for the teams on the field, not the announcers.

My conspiracy theory here is he wanted to have as much influence against the Chiefs and Mahomes to keep him from winning afc west titles and therefore super bowls so he can protect his 7 ring legacy.

The Las Vegas Raiders are a money making machine, they are a top five most valuable team now, it doesn’t matter what fans fill the seats of that stadium, only matters that they’re filled. And I’m sure you are aware of how much those game tickets cost. It’s actually smart business wise, even if the Raiders never have another winning season again.

You could argue well why not be part owner of the Patriots, or someone like the Cowboys(the leagues most profitable team)? The answer to that is do you really see Kraft or Jones letting him have a piece of the pie? Much easier to get a piece from Mark Davis.

Mark Davis, the owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, does not have any children. However, he is devoted to his possums, which he has bred and breastfed in his Las Vegas mansion. Davis considers the possums to be his legal heirs and plans to release them into the desert of Las Vegas after he passes away.

In May 2024, there was speculation that Davis and dancer Hayden Hopkins were expecting a child together. However, Hopkins quickly denied the rumor, and the NFL news aggregator who posted it deleted the post.
