So, what's the story behind Jason Bean?

Watched part of the IND game over the weekend, and at some point they put in a kid named Jason Bean, former KU QB. He only played maybe one drive, and his stats were 4/4, 52 yds, O TDs/0 INTs, 118.8 Passer Rating.

Imho, he looked decent. The commentators had some interesting things to say about his background including how he was a track star, and how he ended up with the Colts, so I was just wondering what's the story here?

I think he'll have a job as a backup for years especially if he can limit the mistakes. I mean, he can come in and win the game for you if Richardson gets hurt.

And let's be honest, Richardson is gonna get hurt.

If teams ever start putting value on backup QBs who can do more than just hold a clipboard: come in for read options, play WR, trick plays, etc, then he’ll have a spot on an NFL roster.

Wouldn’t shock me if he became a Taysom Hill type for someone.

He’s had a really good preseason and has become a fan favorite among colts fans. He’s played better than every quarterback on the roster other than AR, and that includes old man Flacco. He’s has a really good arm and is really athletic.

That said, AR and Flacco aren’t going anywhere and Sam Ehlinger is apparently Irsays coke dealer so it’s a long shot for him to make the roster.

I really hope he makes it on the practice squad.

Fun guy to watch.

Mizzou fan here. I caught a number of KU games on the teevee last year, and the reviews are pretty spot on regarding his potential and ability to make plays. Mizzou has seemingly figured out its QB situation, but I did have the thought of what it would look like if Bean was in our offense just based on his ability to break the amazing plays that he did.

I also caught a quick bit of a Colts preseason game where the announcers were talking about how the Indy coaches were basically wanting to shoehorn Bean into the wide receiver room, but he wouldn't let them do it with the plays he was making at QB for them.

By all accounts he's a great story and a good kid to pull for.

Welp, he'll have a 15 year career and end up in the Colts Ring of Fame.

He was about as good as you could expect a backup QB to be, especially in Lawrence.
It wasn't just that. He would make some amazing plays. And the occasional bad play could be accepted. The problem with Bean is that he would make the most boneheaded, ridiculously stupid play in the most crucial times. Admittedly, he did cut down on that a bit last year and led the team to a good record after Daniels went down.
