Where does Simone Biles rank?
Where does Simone Biles rank among the best American athletes ever? She’s literally reset the bar for the entire sport. Mahomes level except she’s done it for over a decade and against the world. Who is better? She has multiple routines named after her. Largest margin of victory. She jumps like 12 feet over routine. The oldest to win the all around in 72 years. I don’t know how to do polls, but even if I did what choices would he in the poll? I have two daughters in gymnastics and they both want to be her (obviously not relevant to my question but it’s nice as a dad to see them strive to beat her).

I’ll leave the arguments for the sports shows. But I enjoyed watching her. I normally don’t enjoy watching the judged events.

I mean, I want to say Phelps and eventually ledecky because the sport just feels more traditionally sporty for me. But hard to argue the logic of the OP. Biles doing all this at her age is like a 45 year old nba player putting one of the best seasons of all time.

I think I’m content to just realize how blessed we are to watch all 3 of these in our lifetime.

She choked pretty bad in 2020-2021 Tokyo Olympics. Phelps never blew it like that during his prime years.

If that’s the case then I’m wrong. It weakens my position. However, Phelps’ records are being broken this Olympics. While Biles’ scores are subjective, it’s not a fair comparison but she’s elevated the gymnastics game to a level that nobody in any sport could (in my humble opinion). Everyone is compared to SB, while the dude from France has broken several of Phelps’ records. Again, Phelps is a badass… nothing against him

Biles competes in every single competition that she can compete in. Medaled in 5/6 with 4 golds in 2016. 2020/2021 had a silver and bronze, but had to pull out of the other 4 events. This year she has 2/2 gold, but has 4 more competitions. She has medaled in 9/10 of the Olympic events that she has competed in.

After this Olympics, Biles will have had the opportunity to get 18 medals in 3 different Olympics. Phelps, whom I legit love, has competed in 31 Olympic events across 6 different Olympics.

2000 - 1 event
2004 - 8 events
2008 - 8 events
2012 - 6 events
2016 - 6 events

Just my two cents...none of the "sports" with judge scores should be counted the same as sports with a clock or proper scoreboard. You can't fool a clock in swimming. Either you are the fastest person or you're not.

In synchronized diving the other day, the Chinese team was given the benefit of the doubt from judges on the synchronization score even though they were NOT synchronized. Other teams were better synchronized than them, but the judges let China off the hook. Possible money in the pocket of the judges? There have been corruption scandals in the past with Olympic judges in various sports.
