Where does Simone Biles rank?

Where does Simone Biles rank among the best American athletes ever? She’s literally reset the bar for the entire sport. Mahomes level except she’s done it for over a decade and against the world. Who is better? She has multiple routines named after her. Largest margin of victory. She jumps like 12 feet over routine. The oldest to win the all around in 72 years. I don’t know how to do polls, but even if I did what choices would he in the poll? I have two daughters in gymnastics and they both want to be her (obviously not relevant to my question but it’s nice as a dad to see them strive to beat her).

I definitely put Phelps ahead of her. 23 gold medals is ridiculous.

This all day. Phelps is the greatest.

She's top 5 for sure given the longevity you normally don't see in a gymnast.

Not taking anything away from Phelps but SB has far fewer medal opportunities due to her sport than Phelps does.

He medaled in 28 of 30 events. He won gold in 76% of the events he raced. Thats just bananas. He had more opportunities because he earned them. Not going to take away from Biles but she could compete in more events by competing/qualifying for more individual apparatus competitions.

I don’t disagree. Phelps is amazing. Biles didn’t have anywhere close to 30 opps, due to the nature of her sport. You’re not wrong, but the lifespan and opportunities is far different. But for sure, Phelps is amazing.

She would be in my top three American athletes right now. I'd have to think about all-time lists to rank her.

I think I'm impressed in part because she does stuff that I could never imagine doing. Phelps was a fast swimmer, but I could kick my way across a pool. I can do what he does, but he's just a lot better at it.

But Biles? I can't do a cartwheel, and look at what she does.
