Quick question...I'm looking for a good 3 or 4x optic for an AR (not mine, as it was lost when my boat capsized). The ACOG is really nice, but really expensive. Are there other good options?
Or should I go with a red dot + magnifier like the EOTech setups? |

Primary Arms has a 3x scope that’s pretty good. SLX I think is the name

Bearing in mind that I don't own a 1x4, I've only peeked/used other people's here and there, and I don't know what exactly your friend is putting it on or what your pal is planning to use it for . . . I would take a look at Vortex's Crossfire II, that retails around $280. Here's a link: https://vortexoptics.com/crossfire-i...brite-moa.html Gets good reviews, both the scope and the company. I have four Vortex scopes, one is over 17 years old, and have never had any issues with any of them. Yes, there are better scopes, but Vortex is at the top of the list for bang-for-your-buck equipment. |

I use a Holosun red dot, it's battery and solar powered. I can't link it right now but I really like mine. It cost me less than $300

Thanks to everyone for the advice on optics. I haven't made a decision on it yet, but wanted to share a recent find of mine.
I was walking through a local antique market with my wife & daughter yesterday and ran across this (attached image) in a locked case. An Aimpoint Comp M2 for $15. I realize it's an old model, but still should be a solid find if it works. I'm willing to gamble $15 on it. After getting the right batteries for it, I started checking it out. It didn't work at first, but after brushing off the battery leads a bit, it lit right up! It looks like someone left an old battery in too long and it corroded, but they didn't put much effort into getting it working again. Now I have a decision to make...do I keep/use it, or sell it and put the money towards something newer? I think I'll mount it and try it out. |
