Open Carry

My last two trips to our little town of Branson West resulted in seeing private citizens with a pistol holstered.

I was right behind one in line at the bank and the other one came in to shoot the shit with the barber cutting my hair. The only thing holding the second guys gun in the holster was gravity, no strap.

I am pro gun and all for peoples rights, but why? Why does someone feel they need to be packing heat while running errands?

It makes me pretty uncomfortable to say the least. Is this person stable enough to packing heat? Is he or she sober? Are they worried about a jealous lover or spouse gunning them down? Is there going to be a shootout?

What is your opinion? Are we all going to have to be packing soon? Are we going to regress to 200 years ago, like the wild west?

Who vetted this person to have this weapon in public?

Had a couple hours to spend in a waiting room this morning while the Mrs. had eye surgery got 2/3 through the book.

Holy shit, there is so much to consider in such a short time that maybe OPEN CARRY is not such a bad option.

I don't follow what you mean open v concealed? ...Seems like everyone carrying daily is hoping to get caught in a shootout someday and is eager to participate.

How do you figure? I literally know dozens of people that carry daily and not one of them wants to actually have to use it. And I’ve been carrying for nearly 30 years. So I’ve met, and I’ve known a lot of people that carry over the past three decades.

How many people do you say you know that carry that seem to wanna blow people away on a daily basis?

In Los Angeles? Only people who are going out expecting to shoot someone lol

Brings up an interesting questions tho... LA IS actually occasionally dangerous, but its very uncommon to have a weapon on you. Why? I'd guess bc the very act of having a weapon on you increases the chances of a violent event dramatically, but I'd be curious to read some stats if anyone has them? I actually think people would flip out if you were packing openly in LA, here that signals you might intend to use it nefariously I think.

I don't mean to come off as ignorant, I'm genuinely curious what the mindset is.

I had a friend who's old man was debilitated when we were teens, he always carried a cane that pulled out into a full sword for protection lol but it's clear he should've prob had a gun instead in his car bc how you gonna pull a sword on someone car-jacking you lol

I'm not for or against btw, just curious.

Have 2 guns, 1 in house and 1 in car, have never considered moving them from their assigned spots and taking with me. If I had to consider such, I probably wouldn't participate in that social event.

Because Kalifornia is run by a bunch of communists who make it damn near impossible to legally carry a weapon. That’s why.

Considering where I live (the Peoples Republik of Illinois) if I saw someone committing a gun crime, unless he was directly threatening me or someone I care about, I'd probably do nothing - unless the ****er just started blasting everything. That's the sad reality of living in a place where the scumbags running the government at pretty much all levels value criminals more than law abiding citizens.

I remember Sonny Corleone's line about saps risking their lives for strangers. It's shitty, but I carry to protect myself, not you.

That is the way I felt when I started this thread but it has been an education. It is certainly worth your time to read the whole thing.

The book that jdubya recommended certainly sheds a lot of light on the subject.

Bingo, and even that is complicated if you read the book jdubya recommended.

I think I said it earlier but Ill say it again. Only psychopaths would carry a gun "hoping" and "eager" to get in a shootout. I have no idea why you would come to such a conclusion unless it is something you are repeating from some anti-gun group making things up.

The folks I know who carry are the most polite and nearly invisible citizens you'd ever meet. They make every effort possible to avoid trouble and are the most polite drivers on the road.
