How do you guys feel about eventually dying?

I have these random I guess you can call “episodes” where i have this almost out of body experience where i start saying to myself, you’re just you, you’re literally just you, and start thinking about how minuscule i am and then it eventually leads to how i am so fearful of dying one day. I understand I wasn’t around for the Korean War, or world war 2, or the Roman Empire, and that makes sense, since I simply wasnt existing, but now that I exist, the thought of me not existing, and quite frankly never being able to exist again terrifies me. I went to a religious school for a few years and went to church etc, but science tells me that my body make up is unique, and just being born is winning the lottery in its own right. As nice as it is to think my body protrudes this soul is going to rise up and say what up Jesus am I in? or my very unique dna that can profile me as a murderer is going to somehow leak out of my dead composing body, and makes its way into some other woman’s vagina to again try to fight off another 1 million other contestants (assuming dad didn’t jerk off that day) just really gets to me that I have this one chance and this limited, aka very limited time to live a good life. I have a good life mind you. Great wife, supportive family, 2 kids now, great house, but this whole death thing just makes me say sometimes like, wtf man, I want to experience this love and life forever, why does it gotta be so short. Just would like to hear your guys’ thoughts on the manner. Thanks.

Btw, in the first of his books, Robert Monroe wrote about how he began having spontaneous out of body experiences. He was frightened by it and thought he might be going crazy, and kept getting frequent checkups with his friends who were doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists to be sure he wasn't going mad or having something medically wrong. It wasn't until he had about 18-20 of these experiences (most deliberately induced through deep relaxation/meditation after the first spontaneous experience) before he stopped having fear about it and began exploring it in kind of a scientific way with his intense logical left brain-dominated curiosity. By the end of the experiences he wrote about in his first book, he had several hundred deliberately induced OBEs. It's an interesting read.

I used to get tripped up about it, like "I only have xx years left" but now, at 54 I think I have become the man am proud to be, I don't have any "unfinished business' or resentments/enemies or regrets for things done.

Only thing I'd be afraid of is HOW I would die. like, I don't want to be buried under rubble for days dying slowly if I can avoid it.

I try to enjoy life and every day. Try to help others and put some goodness into the world.

Eh, I think he raised a good point. When talking about the afterlife/heaven or what have you, there seems to be a huge divide between what people believe about heaven and how their religious texts describe the afterlife/heaven.

I worry way less about dying than I did when I was young. Seems like it would be the opposite. Probably because my faith has become deeper. I rarely ever think about it, and in the rare event that I do it’s usually just not wanting to die in some sucky, painful way. Like hopefully it won’t be a brain tumor, being burned at the stake, the electric chair, or being eaten by a shark. I also wouldn’t want to be thrown into a pit of highly venomous snakes.

To add to this, here's some details on Robert Monroe's Gateway program, which teaches people how to have OBEs and further states of consciousness. An excerpt from his second book, "Far Journeys":

"The program itself teaches the Focus 10 state (mind awake, body asleep). Participants also learn to move into what is called Focus 12, where all physical-data input is shut off and the consciousness can reach out and begin to perceive in ways other than through the five senses. The action really begins here, where perspectives and overviews change drastically. It is here where the participant truly understands that he is “more than his physical body.”

The Gateway Program thus has evolved into a unique process of self-exploration and discovery. It first surmounts the Fear Barrier (of the unknown, of change), which seems to be the greatest cultural restraint on individual growth. Think of where you are now as a clearing in a dark forest—we call it C-1 consciousness. We then take you into the forest to a point where you can still “see” the familiar clearing. That point is a guidepost (Focus 10). After a sufficient number of runs between guidepost and clearing, the fear disappears. At the Focus 10 guidepost, you always know you can get back to the clearing if you get uncomfortable for any reason.

From the Focus 10 guidepost, another point is established deeper into the forest and probably “out of sight” of the clearing. This we call Focus 12. After several runs between guideposts 10 and 12, this too becomes familiar and secondary fears fade away. You know that even if you can’t perceive the clearing (C-1) from Focus 12, you can “see” Focus 10—and from 10, you know the way back to C-1. The process is expanded to succeeding guideposts, each deeper and different, beyond ever-expanding limits.

With the Fear Barrier dissolved, one of the greatest gifts to the human species comes into full play. Curiosity. With the tools provided, the participant is then free to do as he wishes. He accepts the authority to do so—and the responsibility.

The individual, of his own accord, without suggestion but through direct experience, begins to know, rather than believe, that he does survive physical death. It doesn’t make any difference what he does during his physical life, what he believes; he will go on after his physical body dies.

Survival beyond physical death is not a belief system, therefore, but a simple fact as natural as being born. There is no dogma related to the Gateway Program—except that when you begin the session, you should seriously consider that you are “more than your physical body.”

It is inevitable that the borders between this and other reality-energy systems are crossed. Many of the results are reported as reunions with “dead” friends and family as well as encounters with other forms of intelligent energy not generally recognized or accepted by mainstream American cultural levels."

These signals facilitate a state of awareness where we can experience the unconditional love vibration within ourselves and access this in our daily lives as we interact with others.

Focus 21 - Bridge to Other Realities

These signals target a state of consciousness on the very edge of perception of the time/space continuum. This state provides a bridge between the physical and the nonphysical realms, where access to nonphysical energies and intelligences is possible - a state where greatly expanded awareness is facilitated."

An excerpt from Robert Monroe's third book, Ultimate Journey:

"Immediately I received a signal. I was attracted to a house in the suburbs of a large city. The house seemed vaguely familiar, wide and spacious but empty of furnishings.

I slipped in through the front wall and in the foyer encountered a woman about fifty years old, gray-haired, small and thin. She was wandering through the house from room to room and when I put out my hand to intercept her she seemed surprised that I was there and was paying attention to her.

"Are you here to hang the pictures again?" she asked.

I said I was not and that I was interested in her.

"They took all the pictures down, out of my house. My house! Now no one even speaks to me."

I asked her why she stayed there. Why didn't she leave?

"This is my house. This is where I belong. I don't care if no one notices me anymore."

Didn't she feel anything different? I asked.

"Only that nobody will do what I ask them to do. They ignore me as if I wasn't here."

I asked her if she remembered dying.

"Dying? Of course not! I was sick, but I got well. One minute I was sick and the next thing I knew I was up and walking around!"

I remarked that nobody saw her and that she was all alone. She tossed her head.

"No one ever sees me. They never paid me much attention when William was around. Now he's gone, they ignore me completely."

"I bet you can't pick up that dining room chair," I said. "Your hand will go right through it. You'll see!"

"That's ridiculous!" she exclaimed. "Of course I can pick it up. I'll show you."

She tried several times, and each time her hand went through the chair back. She looked at me in confusion.

"I .. . I don't know what's the matter. I thought it was some sort of hallucination you get when you're old. But .. . you can see it too."

I showed her that my hand went through the chair back just as hers had done. She looked amazed.

"You have the same problem!"

People have this problem, I explained, when their physical body dies.

"But .. . but I'm alive!"

It is the body that dies, I told her. The body. Not you.

She was quiet for a time but she didn't seem to be in shock. Then she looked at me anxiously.

"I was waiting for William to come back, but he hasn't. And I love my house so much. He built it just for me. I don't want to leave it, I love it so."

I suggested that we go and look for William.

"Oh no, we can't do that! He passed away five years ago."

I repeated the suggestion, adding that I thought we ought to try. She looked at me steadily.

"I really am . . . dead?"

I nodded.

"And you are .. . an angel? You don't look like one. You're real normal."

I was, I assured her, just a friend. She shrank back.

"I've never met you before in my life! You're not a friend! You must be one of Satan's devils."

I didn't try to convince her otherwise. I said I was sorry to have bothered her and started to leave.

"Wait! Please wait!"

I turned and stood quietly. She regarded me speculatively.

"If you really were a devil's helper, I couldn't possibly chase you away, could I?"

I told her I didn't know because I had never met one.

"It's been so lonely . . . Can we really find William?"

We could try, I said. I reached for her hand and started to lift out toward the ceiling.

"I can't do that! I don't know how! Your hand is real—I can feel it—but I can't just float up in the air!"

I pulled her hand gently and she began to rise easily. Excitement glowed in her.

"Oh, what fun! Is this being dead? My, my! Let's go find 1 William! Won't he be surprised?"

We cruised slowly more and more out-of-phase. I remembered the previous point where we had met, many years before. It was in a rented house in Westchester County, New York, where I lived temporarily. She was still hanging around the house months after her physical death. At the time, I had gently backed away from the contact. Now I knew better."

"“Hello, Radiant Lady,” I replied in thought. “Can I ask you some questions before we begin?”

“We appreciate questions. We are here to help you in whatever you want to know.”

“Now, you don’t have time on the other side, do you?”

“No, we don’t.”

“And do you have to eat?”

“No, we don’t.”

“Do you have to sleep?”

“No, we don’t.”

“And you don’t have jobs to earn money to survive?”

“No, we don’t.”

“Do you have houses and buildings where you are?”

“Yes, we do,” she replied. “And that is where I was planning to transport you or rather, I should say, where you will transport yourself.”

“So do you have forms of transportation over there?”

“Yes, but transportation is very different from yours on planet Earth. We travel by thought. We just think where we would like to be and are there instantly. In this dimension we have the ability to be in two spaces at once. My mental body is with you but my spirit body is perceived by those around me to be in this dimension. That is the same with you. Your body is sitting at your computer but when you are in our dimension, your soul/spirit body is perceived as being here.”

“That’s amazing,” I said.

“In the physical world your bodies have brains through which the mind works. It is a two-step process: you think, and then act on your thoughts. But in the spirit world, our light spirit bodies—our real bodies—are our brains. Thought and act are a one-step process. Thinking is at once translated into action.”

“So, Radiant Lady, is that how you are going to transport me?”

“No, Rosalind, you are going to transport yourself.”

“So, how do I transport myself?” I asked in desperation. “My brain can’t transport my body!”

“You know how to transport yourself here, Rosalind, because you are traveling via the brain inherent in your soul/spirit body. You have done it many times in your sleep when your soul and spirit are freed from your body. Also, you have traveled here many times through your Explorations while at the Earth lab that you worked in for many years.”

“Oh, you mean in the Monroe laboratory when I worked as an Explorer with Robert Monroe?”

“Of course, Rosalind. You might not remember the journeys you take during your dream state, but you certainly should remember the journeys you took while at the Monroe lab.”

“Well, I remember some of them. But it has been a long time since I took them. Every time I read Cosmic Journeys, I think ‘Wow, that is amazing. I don’t remember doing that…’”

“That is exactly the way with life. We have so many thoughts and experiences that we don’t always consciously remember everything. So just relax and I’ll scan one of your ‘Life Imprint’ journeys here when you visited the Hall of Records. That way you can just move into the energy and be here instantly.”

“Okay, I’ll try.…”

“We never use the word ‘try,’ Rosalind. In the thought process, you either do it, or you don’t. There is never an in-between state called ‘trying.’”

"“Well, yes and no,” she said. “It’s really about life, since there is no death. Showing that there is no death is the main reason for these journeys. We want people on planet Earth to know for sure that there is no death, that ‘death’ is just a word they have created to explain something they know nothing about. Well, I take that statement back. Everyone on planet Earth, at a spiritual level, knows there is no death.”

“How is that?” I asked.

“Well, because they have all put on a body, taken it off; put on a body, taken it off; put on a body, taken it off many, many, many times.”

“You mean going back and forth from Earth to the real world of spirit?” I asked.

“Yes. So today, we are going to show you the truth behind the magic door of ‘death.’ Again, we ask you to relax and report the images we project to you. You are doing a great job of following instructions.”

The car was coming right at him and wasn’t slowing because of the snow. Larry threw on his brakes to miss the oncoming car. He missed the car, but skidded sideways right into the truck. Larry’s driver’s side hit the back of the truck. That was the last thing he remembered.…

He opened his eyes and saw the beautiful face of a young lady looking down at him. She smiled at him, and he said, “Wow, I must be in Heaven.… You look like an angel.”

The young lady replied, “You are in Heaven. But I’m not an angel. My name is Becky, and I am your daughter.”

“I would love to have you as my daughter,” Larry replied. “But I don’t have a daughter. I just have Linda, my wife. We’ve only been married five months.… Linda? Where is Linda? Where am I? I remember her sleeping in the seat beside me. The last thing I remember, I had thrown on the brakes and my Jimmy skidded into the parked truck. Oh, my God—I’m dead.…

“No, you’re not dead. Do you feel dead, Dad?” Becky asked.

“No, I don’t feel dead at all. But you seem so serious about me being your Dad.”

“Yes, I am serious, and you are my Dad. But you’re coming, and I’m going,” said Becky. “You and my mother, Linda, just conceived me two weeks ago in Earth time.”

“That is good news … and bad news. I’ve always wanted a wife and a child—and now that I have them, I’ve abandoned them,” Larry said sadly. “But why am I lying here on this beautiful couch, feeling very much alive?”

“When you arrived, the counselors and spirit therapists in charge of your orientation to this dimension put you on the couch and into a sleep state temporarily,” Becky said.

“Why did they do that?” Larry asked.

Becky reached over and put her hand on her father’s forehead and said, “They put you into a resting state because you died of a blow on the head. Do you remember having any pain?”

“Not at all,” Larry replied.

“I didn’t think so,” responded Becky. “I was right there to observe what happened. Your body was pretty torn up. The thing that killed you was what you loved most about your GMC Jimmy. You bought the one where you can take the roof off. With all the work you were doing with the Boy Scouts, you finally had a vehicle that would be great for your camping trips.

“Since there was no hard roof, the frame on your side of your SUV went right into your left temple. Then the rescue squad had to use a blowtorch to get you out of the vehicle because your hip and lower body were completely smashed. You actually lived for a couple of hours after arriving at the hospital, but your brain and the left side of your body were so damaged that you could never have lived a normal life.”

“Oh, I loved my Jimmy so much. It’s hard to believe that I would tear it up like that. And hurting my body like I did … it happened so quickly. It takes a long time for a life to be created and mature, even for a car to be built. And then within seconds it is all destroyed.… But Linda is so much more important. How did she survive the accident?” Larry asked.

“She and your dog, Frenchie, survived because our angels were protecting them. I was well sheltered inside her body. And having her seat belt on made a great difference. The whole vehicle collapsed all around her, and was completely totaled. No one could believe that she didn’t even get a cut or scratch. She was very bruised from the impact, however. When she didn’t have her period, they thought the trauma to her body was the main reason. But luckily, I was the one that did that.”

“Well, that’s a miracle I’m so thankful for,” said Larry. “We had five wonderful months of marriage. When she ran out of her birth control pills one weekend, we just thought that a couple of days without them wouldn’t matter.”

“And thank heavens you were wrong,” said Becky enthusiastically. “It made quite a difference for my future! My guide and counselors sent an emergency message to me, through thought, of course: ‘Get ready, get ready, we’re sending you in. There is nothing to hold you back from entering the womb now. Get over to The Towers immediately.’ I was prepared to go whenever they called, since I had finished my orientation to go back to Earth for my new growth lessons.”

“I’m sure glad Linda ran out of the pills,” said Larry with a sigh of relief.

“So they met me at The Towers,” Becky continued. “They took me into a special departure room. The Towers is sort of like a large hospital on the Earth plane, but we don’t need hospitals over here. It serves a need as a hospitality center and a place of rest. It’s a ‘stopping off’ center for souls coming in and going out—like us, Dad.”

“What a way to meet the child I always wanted!” Larry exclaimed.

Becky was very intent on telling the story of the beginning of her journey back to planet Earth, and she continued with the details of her departure.

“I lay down on a very comfortable table, and they covered me with warm blankets and put me into a nice, gentle sleep. I even had the sensation that I was shrinking down to a baby-sized soul as I was going into the sleep state. Then I think they hit some sort of energy-ejection button because suddenly I was in utero. It was dark and quite comfortable. I reserved my space by putting my energy deposit down on my new, warm apartment inside Mom!

“But there was no way that I was just going to stay there for the whole nine months. Some souls like the nine months of preparatory rest before going from an environment of pure love into an atmosphere of fear, negativity, and all the challenges of the Earth plane that help us to grow—that is, if we are able to survive them in one piece.”

“Yes, I know,” interjected Larry. “I was barely in one piece—and am just now brushing off the negative ions that must have penetrated my spirit body.”

“You really look better, Dad, even as we’re talking.”

Becky continued: “On this side, there is no time, and it is a shock and confining to the spirit to go back into the ‘time zone.’ It’s dark and boring in there—at least for me it is. I was told by my counselors that my soul could go back and forth for about five months of Earth time, if I desired. After that I would be locked into the system controlled by the planet-Earth energies. When we are in our new apartments for good, the wonderful memories of our life here are blocked out. Our brains are then ready to process our Earth journeys. I wasn’t in a hurry to get locked back into time, and took advantage of being free for a little while longer. And guess what I was doing when the accident happened, Dad?”

“What were you doing?” Larry asked affectionately.

“I was riding in the backseat, petting Frenchie, when the accident happened,” she said.

“But I didn’t answer your question about why they put you into a temporary sleep state when you first came over,” Becky continued. “The reason is that it takes a lot of energy to leave the Earth plane. In your case a short period of rest was needed to recharge your astral body. Only the physical body can be injured, or diseased. The real body is indestructible. Now that you have gotten rid of your disposable body, you are ‘Home Free’ as they say on planet Earth.

“So your counselors and your trained spirit therapists put you into a kind of cocoon state until you were rested and ready to start your new spirit adventures in this very beautiful dimension of pure Love. Since I was right there with you and Mom when the accident happened, I decided to come on back here to welcome you myself. I thought it would be appropriate that we meet each other before we start our new lives.”

“That’s quite wonderful of you, Becky. I wouldn’t be able to meet you like this, otherwise. I’m sorry I abandoned you,” Larry said somewhat dejectedly."

“I knew it was going to happen, Dad, because I had just had my orientation preparing me to go back into the physical world. I went through quite a detailed orientation to get me ready to go back to Earth. Here there is only pure Love and Light; and on Earth there is negativity and conflict, which nonetheless help in our spiritual growth, as I said before. It is time for me to go back for further spiritual growth. My Earth orientation council helped me to decide just what my Earth Contract will be.”

“So I’m going through an orientation period coming in, and you are going through an orientation period going out,” Larry replied.

“I’ve already gone through mine,” said Becky. “We choose our primary life theme, which is our basic goal for our upcoming life. And then we select a secondary life theme, which is a conflict we set up for ourselves. Our secondary theme throws obstacles in the way of our primary goal so that we grow by overcoming them.

“Passivity is my primary life theme. I am a very sensitive person. Emotional discord will be a great challenge for me. My goal is to learn firmness to gain inner strength by dealing with controlling people. You are not controlling, Dad, nor is Mom. But I will come into contact with some very controlling people when I get back on Earth. I know exactly who they are, and I even shiver when I think about having to spend time with them. But I’m going to get a lot of help from God, from my guide and my orientation team, and perhaps from you, too, Dad.

“So my purpose is to learn to use my inner strength, to build a strong self-image, so as to be able to stand up for myself. Together, our orientation team plans the basic structure of our new lives in great detail. But there is room for lots of decisions as we grope our way through life.”

“As your father, I’m already proud of you, Becky, for taking on such a challenging new life purpose,” said Larry. “I do hope that I will somehow be able to help guide you and be able to follow your progress on Earth.”

Becky’s guide, who was with her during her orientation period and was standing just behind her, moved up to let Larry know that he would be free to visit with her at any time during her Earth journey. Because of his special connection as her father, and due to this period of time spent with her before she went back to Earth, he would have a special energy connection whereby he could look in on her at any time, and help give her support when she needed it. He turned to Larry and informed him that all humans have guides throughout their lifetimes on Earth, and that God is always good to us wherever we are.

Larry was sitting up now, and Becky said, “Dad, I’m going to hang around in my warm little apartment longer than I had planned because I want to stay close to Mom as she heals from the accident. You are in good hands, and she needs me more than you do. So I must go. I’ll see you again when I return from Earth some years from now, which will seem only like a second in time.”

Larry stood up and he and Becky had an incredible “energy merging” of spirit bodies.

My health is taking a spiral in the past decade. This topic used to depress me so much,however, I realize that no matter what I do, it’s going to come, so I kind of adapted the concept that one shouldn’t live the rest of their time being afraid of the one moment in time.

The good news is my health is improving. However, I think it’s important to spend 24 years living instead of approaching it as 24 years of not dying (A voodoo chick told me I have 24 years— Seems legit).

TESTING OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES - Thomas Campbell #27

How can out of body experiences be explained? What theory of reality could accomodate such a phenomenon?

Today we have the extraordinary topic of the science and physics of Out of Body Experiences to get our head around! Many brain scientists have reduced this common experience to a mix of physiological and brain chemical effects, maintaining that no perceiving consciousness actually leaves the body, rather it is a form of hallucination and distortion of body schema. Not knowing when these experiences will spontaneously occur has made them hard to study in the lab.

However, certain researchers have developed a method for inducing the experience, allowing for deeper study. Following that study some new theories of reality have developed that could include such an experience and even others like Near Death Experience or NDE, and Controlled Remote Viewing which we’re evaluating in this second series.

One such scientist is our guest today physicist Dr. Tom Campbell! He’s an experimental physicist who’s worked for over 20 years developing US missile systems for the Department of Defence, specialising in developing cutting edge technology, large-system simulation, technology development and integration, and complex system vulnerability and risk analysis.

He began researching altered states of consciousness with Bob Monroe at Monroe Laboratories in the early 1970s. He helped design experiments and develop the Binaural Beats technology for creating specific altered states, and became an experienced test subject and trainer too. After many years studying consciousness, and out of body experiences he wrote the book ‘My Big TOE’, as in ‘Theory of Everything’, which describes his model of existence and reality from both the physical and metaphysical points of view.
