Take a Flier on a Player and Explain Why

So, we all develop ideas about players, and others don't see our vision, or agree with us.

In this thread you can list players you would draft, outside of obvious picks, and explain why and/or how you would use them. It can be a lesser known player, or a player you would use in a way most would think is crazy.

An example would be DT Khristian Boyd. If we trade back and acquire some 6th and 7th round picks this year, I would love to take Khristian Boyd, because we need a DT, and he went to my high school, Blue Springs High. He probably wouldn't make the team, but maybe he sticks around on the PS.

But, it doesn't have to be completely unknown players.

Like, James Williams from Miami. I think he would be a great hybrid S/LB that Spags could use all over the field. I think people see him as a Safety, but I think he can do a lot of things on defense.

Or, like Luke McCaffrey. He is a WR, but I would love to use him as a replacement for McKinnon. He started his college career as a QB, like McKinnon, and he catches everything. It sucks that McKinnon doesn't really play a lot during the regular season because of his injury history, and having a versatile weapon would allow Reid to get creative.

This isn't a thread for name calling, or negativity. This is just a fun thread. If you post here, please have fun with it and be respectful.

Ah. So you also had the NC State/Ohio State rollercoaster, eh?

I just remember watching the NC State game and thinking "Boy, he might have them in the playoffs this year..."

And then Ohio State happened. Then Duke. Then Louisville.

He was just so damn inconsistent. But the highs were awfully good and he has that gritty and aggressive mentality that I like in a backup.

I guess you just hope that you get NC State Hartman if he needs to come in.

My guy is Zach Heins, TE, South Dakota State.

They've churned out a bunch of good TEs, and he's the latest. Good blocker, good lateral agility, enough speed to run the seams, good hands and ball skills.

Take him on Day 3 and profit.

WR Jacob Cowing, might be the best route runner and separator in the draft.

Feels like there are less quality Slot options this year, he's 2024's Tank Dell.

Cros turned me on to him! PFF Draft Guide LOVES him.

Sounds like my earlier "Hey, he might be there in the 5th" thoughts were premature. He may end up being a 3rd rounder if the reports are accurate.

Lots of folks seem to like him. Doesn't mean they won't like him 2nd best until the 4th/5th round, but he may be a guy that goes a lot higher than the so-called draft experts have been thinking.

Isaac Guerendo as a later RB. V little tread on the tires, good hands, decent-ish feet and both quick and fast. He probably goes earlier than I'd like after the combine.

I like Tahj Washington as a shifty later WR and also like Cowing.

Love Khristian Boyd from the 5th. The get off, the hands, and I think he can get stronger and offer more. If we keep Jones and get a bit more juice at DT that'd be massive.

Kitan Oladapo seems to have shot up boards same with James Williams, so maybe they're less of a "flier". I'd go with maybe Omar Brown or Trey Taylor. Good ball skills, excellent tacklers, average athletes but both pretty savvy.

Oh and I like Cam Hart. Think he may be one of the better bets for a guy who can come in and bully WRs like Sneed does as a later pick.

Anthony Gould. He is shorter, 5'8' ~170 lbs, but is quick and explosive both in returns and as a WR. Probably will post one of the faster WR times at the combine. Willing and able catcher and has experience both as a slot and outside. Think a middle class mans Tyreek or Tank Dell.

I suggested Gould at the end of the draft. He would at the very least be the most reliable punt returner on the roster.

Another guy that Spags could do a lot with is Jalyx Hunt from Houston Christian.

On defense I've been fond of DB Jaylin Simpson, he can play press CB with a chip on his shoulder and has the speed and ballhawking skills to play FS.

I just stumbled on this guy - hard to find footage, but wow.
Spags likes smart players - this guy used to play safety/linebacker at Cornell, before entering a college weight program and getting up to 250, tranferring to Houston Christian (FCS) and moving to EDGE. Super athlete. Lots of production and in what little video I could find had demonstrated some ability to read defenses. Probably fits as a linebacker more than an edge here, but he seems to be able to play anywhere. He would contribute to special teams for sure.

Combine Thusfar: https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jalyx-...2-73017a032b03

I think this should be one of the first UDFA guys that Veach calls, if he doesn't get drafted.

I think Andy requires intelligence also, at least at WR, and unfortunately I didn't see the most affluent interview from Xavier Legette to be honest.
