My wife watches the goddamned bachelor shitfest, and at any given time, at least early on, she can tell me what's going to happen. "So and so is going to freak out and get sent home, so and so will get emotional and get sent home, and they're going to play up drama between some **** and this other ****." It's astounding. |

My wife has stopped watching them around me. She knows I despise that garbage. |

Serialized storytelling, the defining characteristic of soap operas, has completely taken over dramatic TV. Pretty much everything is a soap opera or a reality TV show.
I know, I know... you're talking about those low budget nonsense daytime shows, but still. |

Hard to tell, but a lot of women are really into it. As far as I can tell (just a guess) it's the romantic escape aspect of it, but who the hell knows? Whenever my wife would tune into that crap, I would come into my office and jump on-line. Talk about garbage TV.

I’m guilty of that some too. Nothing near as terrible as the bachelor but I’ve turned stuff on that didn’t ask too much of me as a viewer. I think another aspect is how outrageously reeruned it is. Much like how otherwise reasonable individuals watch political shit. I’ll be honest. I’ll judge a politics watcher before a bachelor watcher. |

If they don't have employees misbehaving at the beginning, there's no show. You think they're gong to go to all that trouble placing hidden cameras everywhere, setting up the show, and then go "Well everyone here is solid, bar looks fine. I guess there's no show." As an aside - I used to live in the valley - every single bar I used to like has been ruined by this show. They've been turned into "mixology" bars with mostly the same shit but 3x the price and a new interior. (Pat's Bar on Riverside if you're a fan of the show.) They even ruined the only decent BBQ place in the valley - opened by an ex-gates employee. The turned it from a bar on one side and a BBQ restaurant (which wasn't bad - think Zarda - which is mega-elite BBQ for LA) on the other side - into one giant bar with shitty BBQ. I was burping liquid smoke for hours after eating there. Ugh. (Kansas City BBQ - turned into "The BBQ Bar" - even the name is stupid.) Last edited by suzzer99; 08-24-2019 at 11:27 PM.. |
