Here's the problem with that: You can pay about 30 guys just above the league minimum to give you 80% of that production with enough touches.

I get what you are saying. But if you want to win a championship usually you want a running back that will balance your team unless you are Tom Brady. What is Peyton's record in the playoffs with a great rb? Wilson's when not using the rb? The patriots are the ones who started this trend of devaluing the rb. It has not worked out for most teams when it matters. Someone else will start the trend of a great rb and fullback spread out and others will try and mimic in the near future. |

Patriots have done it for a while. What seems more new to them is this trend of employing a bunch of white boys at WR who wouldn't be shit without Brady.

The chiefs have had the best RB talent in the past 15 years over and over.

Remember when we were all desperate for Corey Dillon because we'd never had a good running back?

If paying and retaining stud RBs was a vital part of a winning team, the Chiefs would have multiple Super Bowls in the past 30 years.

It is better to have a stud system than a stud RB.

You don't need a great RB when you can spread a defense out with 3 WR and a TE or 4 WR and you're facing only six guys in the box. How many SBs have the Steelers won with Bell? Even Marshawn Lynch, who is probably the best example you could come up with, wasn't all that good of a backfield receiver. The Eagles just won with a guy they signed as a cheap FA (Blount) from the Patriots and Ajayi, whom they acquired for a mid-round pick. The Falcons should have won a SB with Devonta Freeman, a 4th rounder. |

Makes perfect sense. No way you pay this cancerous drama queen long term especially if you can get a SB or two out of him while he is on good behavior.
