William Shatner Attending Planet Comicon KC
Always been a fan. Never been to this event. Might be worth the price of admission.
Star Trek's William Shatner captains Planet Comicon Kansas City's first group of 2023 guest announcements Tickets are already on sale for Planet Comicon Kansas City, the largest and longest-running comic book convention and pop culture event in the region. As preparations continue for our next epic event on March 17-19, 2023 at the Kansas City Convention Center, we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring you our first guest announcements for 2023. Of course, every mission to our fandom-fueled galaxy requires a gallant crew of guests and we couldn’t be more excited to announce that William Shatner, Star Trek’s very own Admiral James T. Kirk, is our first official guest announcement. He will be joining us on Friday and Saturday. |

I had a chance to meet him a few years ago. He was attending a screening of Star Trek II at a local theater. I talked to one of my buddies who knew how it worked - basically you could either pay to get your picture taken with him or pay to get an autograph on something. You couldn't touch him - understandably at his age he's a bit of a germaphobe. Well, I've already got a plaque with autographed photos of him and Patrick Stewart, and don't really have any desire to have a picture taken of old fat me and old fat Shatner. Nor am I a fan of standing in long lines. Plus I've heard he can be a bit surly at times (again, understandable), but if I met Captain Kirk and he was a dick to me it would just wreck my psyche. And seriously, I've seen Star Trek II a hundred times.
Basically all I wanted to do was shake his hand, tell him that he's awesome and go about my business, but that really wasn't an option. So I took a pass. I kind of regret not doing it, but not all that much. The old adage about not meeting your heroes comes to mind. |
