Do we really break the bank for Tyreek?

Hear me out. No doubt Tyreek has been great and has obvious chemistry with Mahomes. But do we really make him one of the highest paid WRs?

Here are my thoughts against this:

1) From having watched Mahomes through college, I have observed he really likes taller receivers who can go high to get the ball. Mahomes has of course had success with smaller slot receivers like Keke Coutee but a big bodied receiver can be just as deadly paired with Mahomes. Maybe draft a second receiving tight end?

2) We saw how easy it was to get Reek out of the game completely in the AFCCG. Paying reek would likely even mean there is no Watkins on the other side either.

3) Raw speed, in my humble opinion, is the fastest depreciating asset for any pro-athlete. Who is to say Tyreek from two years later will be faster than a fresh 21 year old coming out of college with a similar skill set?

4) The chemistry Tyreek and Patrick have was built in one off season. I am sure Mahomes can replicate that with mostly anyone. He got Albert Wilson paid last year.

Not saying Tyreek isn't great, he is a unicorn for sure but I am wary of the big money being discussed for his new deal.

Even in a game like last Sunday when he isn't necessarily producing a ton, he is making a huge difference because he commands so much attention and stress on the defense.

Even if he loses a step or two, he's still faster than anyone else.

The Patriots doubled him literally the entire game.

Bill just told you that you need to pay him.

At its simplest form though, Tyreek is a superstar and its often not wise to let those get away, especially when they aren't divas. He busts his ass and plays tough. I'd pay him for sure.

Even with them doubling him, there are ways to combat that. Andy didn't do it.

This. Tyreek not getting that ball was more about Andy than it was Tyreek

Some Andy, some Mahomes. It makes me choke to say it but he missed several opportunities to check down to a virtually unguarded Damien Williams on several of those plays.

You're waaaaay overthinking this. You've seen the results of Mahomes + Tyreek. Tyreek is a "GAMER" and plays through injury. He's young and ascending. A weapon in so many ways. Gives it his ALL. The answer is a resounding YES!

Who would you rather pay big money to? Watkins or Tyreek? That’s a pretty damn easy choice.

We shouldn’t be worried about this. Andy has always found quality players on offense ever since he became a HC.

Just draft a WR early to replace Watkins and you won’t have an issue with money for 4 or 5 years.

You absolutely sign him for market value for 5 years and draft his replacement after 3. He’s a generational talent that forces opposing teams to game plan for him. Even then he’s very hard to stop.
