At 16 i was given a manual 74 Datsun & told... 'learn how to drive it & its yours'.

Took me about 20-30 minutes to become passable, essential knowledge for sure.

It's been 27 years since I owned an automatic.

First manual I tried to drive was my dad's Rambler, 3 speed on the column. After I just about killed us all taking a turn in it he said that was enough. So my first two cars were automatics. I learned to drive a stick by taking the tow truck at the gas station I worked at out into the parking lot after the boss left for the day.

Later I bought an old 3 speed Jeep and never looked back.
