Did either team even field a defense or did the quarterbacks just chuck it up for grabs all night?

I coached with an opposing team that faced Glendale and Huston last year... kid is really, really good. It's not just a system thing.
Don't get me wrong, he has a great luxury when it comes to pass protection because most teams won't dare rush more than 3 defenders, but a lot of that is because of how great he is in the pocket. He escapes sacks as good as anyone QB I've seen play within the conference in recent years. Extremely accurate, appeared to have a pretty good arm. Very good vision and awareness. And he is doing it this year with an entirely different stable of receivers. Can't take much away from him. |

It's not about the QB. It's about receivers that can catch!

One of my nephews plays WR for Glendale. Wish I could see a stat sheet to see if he had some catches in that game.

This might be apocryphal.
But the first time Mauk met with the players back in the Spring of 2013, he of course explained his philosophy of running a 5 WR naked shotgun spread. One of the underclassmen running backs raised his hand and goes "Coach, am I gonna get to run the ball?" Mauk goes "Of course you're going to run the ball: right after you catch it." |
