Assistant coaches for Spagnuolo - still available
A decent amount of Defense assistants out there, and a few D coaching staffs who might make some changes in the coming weeks.
Less experienced DCs: Marquand Manuel - Atlanta DBs - a little less track record College coaches: Mike Stoops - fired Matt house - Kentucky DC (history with Spagnuolo) Bill Sheridan - BC LBs coach (history with Spagnuolo) Michael Reed - Clemson DBs (history with Spagnuolo) LeVar Woods - Iowa ST coach Fired/No longer employed: Marion Hobby - Jags DL (worked with Coughlin, so imagine he's high on Spagnuolo's list) Clyde Simmons - Browns DL Winston Moss - Packers LBs (highly regarded until he tweeted about Rodgers) Johnny Lynn - Broncos Assistant DBs (coached for Reid ~10 years ago) Jim Haslett (pending) - Bengals LBs Scott McCurley - Packers LBs Brady Hoke - Carolina DL (experienced, but fired) Jeff Imamura - Carolina Assistant DBs (inexperienced and fired) Jerod Kruse - Cleveland Assistant DBs (almost no experience) Blake Williams - Cleveland LBs (imagine he'd follow Gregg to NYJ) Michael Barrow - Seattle LBs (1 year out of coaching) Carnell Lake - DBs Still employed options: Imagine Dolphins coaching staff is no notice which includes: - Matt Burke - we need this guy ASAP. Coached LBs for Schwartz so he knows the wide 9 defense - Frank Bush - very experienced LBs coach Jets D-coaching staff (they seem to all be loosely available). Includes Bob Nunn - DL coach who has a Coughlin connection Tim Hauck - Eagles S coach Chiefs options: Rod Wilson - Chiefs current assistant ST coach Jay Valai - Chiefs D Quality control (played DB for Wisconsin. Was with UGA program) Terry Bradden - Chiefs D Quality control (has shadowed Emmitt Thomas & Britt Reid) Last edited by chiefzilla1501; 01-27-2019 at 11:59 PM.. |

Why is Dennis Allen on your list?
He’s still the DC for the Saints. |

Bump. Added a few names. Dolphins coaching staff is one we should definitely poach. I'd imagine Brian Flores brings in his own guys and a bunch of Patriot Way doofuses.

Mike Caldwell who played for and coached for Reid in Philly. LB. Followed Bowles to AZ in 2013. I imagine Reid and Spags would have him high on the LB coach list but he accepted the ILB with Bucs under Arians and Bowles. Larry Foote is coaching OLB's on that staff and he's always coached ILB and I could see them hiring Joey Porter or Kevin Greene who just finished up with Bowles coaching OLBs with the Jets if they let Caldwell join KC which they have no reason to do so. Unless they offered to name him Run Game CO or something in addition to LB coach. Those types of situations are usually doubtful but you never know.
Matt House has been mentioned for LBs because he was a D/quality control coach for Spags in STL. Kentucky DC now. Never know whether a coach actually enjoys recruiting and college FB over the chance at the NFL. Just depends I suppose. If he is on track for HC interviews in college there is no reason at all to leave for the NFL. Just a mention as a former Spags coach. Bill Sheridan current BC LB coach. Coached LB's at NYG and got promoted to DC when Spags took the STL HC job. Sheridan coached Antonio Pierce (now at AZ state) with the Giants. Maybe a Sheridan LB coach and Pierce asst LB coach type situation. Speaking of AZ State they just Hired Jamar Cain as DL coach from Fresno St. He spent at least one maybe two Bill Walsh training camp intern fellowships with KC in the last few years. Might be a asst DL/pass rush type coach. I could see a pass rush type coach like that who also assists Britt with the DL because the asst could help with Leo(weakside end) and Otto(just another name for SAM LB that some under teams like Seattle use) positions. Andre Carter the asst DL coach in limbo with the Dolphins is another potential fit IMO but no ties. Michael Barrow was coaching LB's in Seattle when Ken Norton left and he got Fired along with Kris Richard who was the DC by Carroll. Richard of course moved on to Dallas and I believe Barrow sat the year out. They both got canned so Carroll could bring back Norton. Partially anyway. Don't know the whole story but he's a name worth watching as he's got 3-4 years coaching LBs in the 43 under in Seattle. Also coached at his alma matter U of Miami. I would think he's worth an interview. Joe Bowden is a former LB as a player too who got into coaching and has NFL exp. as the main LB coach. Under Jeff Fischer I believe. Not sure where/if he is currently coaching. Tim Hauck, Eagle S coach. Played and coached under Reid. Would have to offer him a promotion to DB's coach in charge of both S and CB. Cory Undlin is Phillys main DB coach. Plus Reid had a policy of not taking his assistants when his coaches get HC gigs. Peterson took Dino Vasso who was just a D/QC coach which I don't think Reid really minded. But Peterson and Roseman gave Eugene Chung some title like Run Game CO/asst OL/asst TE... which is ****ing dumb if he's not the main TE or OL coach to get a run game co title. I think that would pissed Reid off a bit. So he owes him one. Maybe he will go after Hauck. Maybe not. Carnell Lake. Former Steeler DB coach took last year off I believe to watch his son play ball at UCLA where Carnell played. Reid had him as a Bill Walsh minority fellowship intern one year in Philly. Can't remember the specific year. After that Lake went the college coaching route, I think UCLA before joining the Steelers. Maybe a possibility as S coach if Harris stays to coach CBs. Which is probably better than 50/50 shot since he played 3-4 years getting coached by Spags. Michael Reed Clemson DB coach. Played for Spags with the NFL Europe Frankfurt Galexy for a year or two. Also assisted special teams and DBs in Philly under both Spags and Reid. Could slide Toubs asst ST coach Rod Wilson to LB where he played in the NFL and coached small school college. Probably would be more of an asst LB candidate. Speaking of ST coaches, Lavar Woods the ST CO at Iowa. Played LB in NFL and at Iowa. Coached TE's and LBs at Iowa as well. Was LB coach when Hitchens played there. Just throwing a young talented name out there with that one. No connection other than Hitchens Going to be interesting how they fill out the rest of the staff on D. Got to be more coaches available with scheme background fit. Hopefully some good ones since lots are already hired. We shall see Last edited by booger; 01-27-2019 at 11:10 PM.. |

Good assistants should be ligning up for this job.
We are a head coach and coordinator factory, and we’re a solid defensive turnaround away from a SB. |

Manusky hasn’t been fired. The other Mike Smith (former falcons HC) said he is retiring from coaching. Austin took a Senior D asst role with Tomlin in Pittsburgh

Isn't this a bit premature? Other than Mike Smith, who else has left? I'll agree there are a lot that need to go, but before we start speculating, we need some vacancies.

This is off subject, but he is an assistant. I'm at my gym today here in The Villages, Florida. It's a large retirement community 60 miles NW of Orlando. I've got my weights and I'm headed back to my bench and I see a guy that looks just like this photo standing there looking for a place to workout. He's got the black shirt with white sleeves, the black hat but no logo. I said, anybody ever tell you that you look just like the Baltimore Ravens Defensive Coordinator Wink Martindale, he said, I'm Wink Martindale.
I tell him I'm huge Ravens fan, former season ticket holder and moved here 8 years ago, I asked if he was here for the ProBowl? He said, he rather watch paint dry. He said he had a couple of weeks off before they get into the draft so they rent a place and he plays some golf. I asked if he wanted to play golf with my group on Friday, but he said he had it covered. I did ask, what do you think of Patrick Mahomes, and he said, he's special. Seemed like a nice guy, he lifted weights for about 1/2 hour. |

Think it's pretty much assumed that Emmett Thomas is gone. If Mike Smith, maybe our best defensive assistant, was fired than several others can't be far behind. At the very least we will probably need to replace Thomas and Smith. If not more. And with the new alignment, it could end up being even more.

What a surprise. Flores plucks a bunch of guys from the Parcells (Coughlin)/Bellichick tree. Shame since a few of those guys could have been Spags targets. Robbie Leonard, Marion Hobby. Patrick Graham in as DC.
So the Miami D staff is all available. Experience running Schwartz's wide 9. Matt Burke & Frank Bush should be worth a look. Both tremendous experience with LBs. |

Burke went to join Schwartz with the Eagles about a week or so ago.
The LB coach job is hard to guess at this point. Mike Caldwell if he was interested I don’t think Arians let’s him out of his contract as ILB coach like Coughlin did for Merritt. I would say Matt House, Bill Sheridan, Michael Barrow, or quite possibly Glenn Pires. Pretty much a toss up right now |
