Anyone on here from Grandview or know the area?
I need to book a hotel, somewhere close to 71 and Main in Grandview. I don't want to stay in a dump, but it doesn't have to be the Drake either. So far, there's a Holiday Inn Express in Belton that I'm looking at, but I'd prefer to be a bit north of that. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. |

I have personally stayed at that Holiday Inn Express & it was alright. Nothing fancy and low end but okay. Dartgod is from around those parts and could tell you best.

I'm thinking that the Holiday Inn Express in Belton might be the only decent hotel.
The closest I can think of is the old Best Western (not sure what it is now, used to be a Ramada) right off 71 near Blue Ridge. Not sure if it's any good though. |

Seriously. It's not even a Best Western anymore. I think it just says "Hotel" on the side of the building. There is a Super 8 at 71 and 155th, I'm not sure of the quality of the rooms, but I've been to the bar there (The Zone) and it's not bad. I'd still be inclined to stay at the HI Express in Belton though, if I was making recommendations. The Super 8 is on the border of a pretty seedy neighborhood. |

I'd second continuing on to Belton as well. Or you could backtrack up 470 to Lee's Summit, or west on 435 to Metcalf and find some nicer digs. I know there's a Residential Inn and several others [the one with a tree as it's logo] at 435 and Metcalf, about 10 miles from Main in GV. There's also an Extended Stay and a Court Yard at Holmes and 435 that's only about 5 miles away. Also available and really close is the Days Inn by the U-Haul across 71 from Truman Corners. Oh, and to give you some insight into the quality of the Super 8, just a few years back it was a dorm for a truck driving school. |

If you can stay in Belton instead I would. Nothing in Granview is going to be in an especially good area.
Sad really, I remember when I was a kid it was a nice neighborhood. |

Also, Marion Lab's failure to follow through on their campus plans fooked them for a bit. |

Will Truman Corners be safe? I'd hate to see a gorgeous landmark and business/cultural mecca like that be lost for the ages. Maybe we should start a rundown suburban heritage society to save it. |

Since I live there, I can say there are more moment when I think "God, I can't wait to get out of this place" than there are "This place isn't so bad".
My neighbors are good people, etc but the immediately surrounding areas are terrible. Too many 'thugs' standing around at noon on a weekday with nothing better to do than to look 'cool'. I want to move out of here to a place where peoples 'rims' aren't worth more than their home. Planning on trying to leave next year; put the house on the market this spring/summer and had VERY minimal showings (5 I think). Pretty much at the point where I have to sell it and probably break even at best after 4 years. |

We were talking about it and he bought the house brand new in 1970 - he opted for it over a slightly smaller older house in Praire Village. Had he gone that route he have made plenty of money on his house as an investment. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20. |
