Her son, Terry Melcher, was a very successful record producer. He produced for the Byrds, Paul Revere and the Raiders, among others.
An odd link to a tragedy: He was introduced to Charles Manson as an aspiring singer/songwriter through the Beach Boys. This was at the same time Manson had his "family" staying at the Spahn ranch. Melcher rejected Manson on two different occasions which pissed Manson off. The house where Melcher lived (and Manson visited during his attempt to get a recording contract) was the same house where the Manson clan killed Sharon Tate and others. Manson showed up a few times before the murders asking for Melcher but was told he didn't live there anymore (he had moved out a few weeks earlier). It's unclear if his target was Melcher or the new celebrity couple of Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate. |
