Chiefs Highlight Movie from 1972

Found this on You Tube, and it's pretty cool. 1972: Lamar Hunt goes into the HOF as the very first AFL guy inducted. Then a couple weeks later, Arrowhead Opens vs. Miami on a 100 plus degree day. Chiefs lose their first three home games at Arrowhead before they smoke the Raiders at home in front of 80,000 fans. In early season, Dawson gets hurt ribs, Livingston goes into plays for Dawson. Then after a couple weeks, Livingston gets hurt, Dawson returns to the lineup still with bad ribs. Chiefs play against Lamonica, Hadl, Bradshaw, Ken Anderson. The lousy home record and injuries doom their season, but they finish with their eighth winning season in a row.

Couple things to check out:

Those of you who have poo-pooed Otis Taylor, just watch him work. He's graceful, powerful, just a great receiver. He was Michael Irvin or TO before those guys ever put on a jock. Watch Bobby Bell destroy Bradshaw about five yards out of bounds. Watch Lanier kill people. And I had no idea Mike Sensibaugh led the AFC in interceptions in 1972. That defense had several HOF guys on it: Culp, Buchanan, Bell, Lanier and Thomas. Five out of eleven guys in the HOF. That's pretty awesome.

Mike Garrett was playing for San Diego (number 20) then. Podolak replaced him as halfback in KC.

The big scoreboard was pretty lame when the stadium opened. Lots of cheezy graphics. And no padding on the concrete walls in the end zone.

I was there for all the home games. Remember how cold it was against Denver that year. We've had a lot of freezing games versus Denver over the years.

Enjoy the movie!

I noticed a couple of things:

1. The Chiefs were just as good missing tackles back then as they are today. Lots of them

2. My buddy Phil Villapiano #41 was playing for the Raiders in this game and I saw him several times, including getting beat on a TD pass. I'll have to let him know next time we speak! LOL

I remember a couple of those nationally televised games as I never saw many Chiefs games on TV growing up, normally only when they played the late game against the Raiders or Denver.

Thanks for posting GB!
