Your quarterly newsletter of awe-inspiring Chiefs stats.
I'm hanging out at the mall right now, so here you go.
1. Justin Houston had 22 sacks last season. Only 12 other Chiefs have more than 22 sacks in their career.*
2. After three seasons as a nose tackle, Dontari Poe ranks 23rd on the Chiefs' all-time sacks list.*
3. We can guess that DT, Hali, and Houston are the top-three linebackers in career sacks.* But #4 and 5? Derrick Johnson and Donnie Edwards.
4. Only five Chiefs have gained 100 or more yards on fumble returns, led by DT's 161. Linebacker Chris Martin ranks third with a total of 103 yards, of which 100 yards was gained on one return.
5. Among the Chiefs' top ten interception leaders, only one played a game in the 2000s. It was Greg Wesley (ranked 8th).
6. In 2014, Cairo Santos scored the 17th-most points ever by a Chief, and the 11th-most by a kicker.
7. In Chiefs history, the Chiefs have had a 1,000 yard receiver only 17 times. Tony Gonzalez had four of them, and Dwayne Bowe had four of them.
8. While we all know that Jamaal needs more carries, his 2012 and 2013 seasons were actually the 7th and 8th highest rushing attempts by a running back in Chiefs history.
9. In 2010, Larry Johnson rushed the ball 410 times. If that number had been cut in half, it would have still been the 17th-highest number of rushing attempts by a Chiefs running back in a season.
10. The Chiefs have had only six seasons where the quarterback had a QB rating of 95 or higher (minimum of 100 attempts). Three of these were recorded by Len Dawson, and the top three seasons were all recorded by Len Dawson.
* - Since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.
