Great player, but maybe a better announcer. Certainly, one of basketball's greatest characters, on or off the court. He'll be missed. RIP, Bill.

This one hurts. Loved Bill as an announcer. Never knew what he might say, and often it was about something completely unrelated to the game, but then he'd say something incredibly poignant about the game.
RIP big fella. Hope you are in the big jam in the sky. |

This one sucks. Bill Walton was a very interesting guy. The wife and I just wrapped up watching The Luckiest Guy in the World not too long ago.

His performance in 1973 against Memphis State will never be matched.

I had no idea he was sick. Remember him more as a player than announcer. Anybody know what kind of cancer he was battling?

Bill Walton calling a Jayhawk game high AF is one of the highlights for me.
We lost to Arizona State (I think it was Arizona State) but I personally saw Walton getting high with one group of students, and I am guessing he probably smoked his own, or took a gummie or something, even before that. I liked him calling games on TV, either college or pros, but after seeing him bring joy to pretty much every person he interacted with, I couldn't have a higher opinion of him. |
