I wanted to emphasize a few important points:

This Charger's loss may not be anywhere near as damaging as we expect.

Why? Because Seattle will likely have LITTLE OR NOTHING to play for next Sunday when we face them.

If Seahawks beat Niners this week, their locked into either the 5th or 6th seed WC. No matter what happens in the league until season's end.

If Seahawks beat Niners AND Miami beats the Vikings this week, the Seahawks would then be locked into the 5th seed, by the end of this weekend!

KC will be facing a Seahawks team who may well be resting starters, allowing Wilson to play only a half, less sense of urgency etc. Google Seahawks playoff clinching scenarios or ESPN playoff simulator to see.

And then we would face Oakland at home the last week, which is almost like a BYE win as others have mentioned.

Also, the other MAJOR benefit to the Chargers loss is now the coaching staff won't be resting Mahomes against Oakland in the last week (in pursuit of HFA), which could well have happened if KC clinched early and would have inevitably reduced his pass yards and TD passes season totals, allowing Brees or Rivers a better chance to win the MVP. In a close race, Mahomes needs every advantage and snap that he can get to pad his stats to maximize his chances of beating Brees for MVP.

Of course, if KC had beaten the Chargers, there would have been benefits to that scenario too, but Mahomes MVP chances are very important. I mean having our Kansas City QB in the NFL record books with an all time great season with over 50 TD's, over 5000 yards, and win league MVP is the best consolation prize if the Chiefs don't win the SB this year.
