You are generally correct, but everyone who makes this argument, including the dude in that viral post, is forgetting that the virus is not floating out there in the air by itself. It's attached to droplets from people talking and breathing, which generally are bigger than 1 micron, and pretty much always bigger than .3 microns.
I've read that even the N95 masks do stop particles smaller than .3, it's not like they completely fail at that threshold. But either way it doesn't matter because it can knock down many droplets carrying the virus.
