Come on, dawg. Have you not been paying attention to any of this?
1. Hollywood recasts. We’ve already seen this in the MCU with Ed Norton and Terrence Howard being replaced.
2. The multiverse. There are an infinite number of universes. There’s a universe where Kang looks like you, one where he looks like me, one where he looks like Timothy Chalamet. They could have cast any random jamoke and said
that was the Kang who is the threat to our universe.
It was always that easy.. but to answer your question, in universe, He Who Remains’ arc always had to end with the Loki series. It’s established that HWR was the variant who won the last multiversal war and set up a ton of failsafes to prevent any other variant of his from becoming Kang the Conqueror. We know that the next series of Avengers flicks centers around fighting Kang; therefore, we know that He Who Remains had to die.
And Victor Timely was always irrelevant. He was plucked from the 1800s. He was never going to develop the tech necessary to be a multiversal threat. Just plop him back in his timeline and he’s forgotten by time.
