Absurdist philosophical novel, The Plague, by Albert Camus. Initially the outbreak is downplayed by officials and optimistic outlooks are provided. Eventually mass social distancing and quarantine are employed.
Also a good time to read the Denial of Death by Ernest Becker. We learn to repress thoughts of our mortality, but it is always near the surface of our consciousness, ready to assert itself in times like these. This is a life transforming book.
